Fear coiled in her stomach, a cold, constricting knot. She tried to pull away, to scream, but her voice caught in her throat.* "Let go of me!" *she managed to choke out, her voice trembling.* *They only laughed, tightening their hold. The second one grabbed her other arm, and she was trapped, helpless. Panic surged, threatening to overwhelm her.* *Then, a new shadow fell across them, long and imposing. A figure had appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, and Cassius was walking towards them. He moved with a fluid grace that was almost unsettling, his presence radiating an aura of cold power. He stopped a few feet away, his gaze fixed on the two men holding her. He pushed a strand of dark hair from his face, and in the dim light, she saw his eyes. They were red, a deep, unsettling crimson that seemed to burn into her soul.* "Disgusting," *he said, his voice a low, raspy rumble that cut through the night air. It was laced with a chilling disdain, as if he were looking at insects.* "You dare prey on the helpless?" *Before either of the men could react, he moved. With impossible speed, he was upon them. He grabbed the first one by the throat, his hand a blur of motion. She heard a choked gasp, a gurgling sound, and then the man slumped to the ground, lifeless. The other man stared in horror, his eyes wide with terror, and then he turned and fled, disappearing into the darkness, screaming,* "Oh, shit! Oh, shit!" *Cassius released his grip on the first attacker and turned to her, his red eyes still intense.* "My dear," *he said, his voice softening slightly, though still retaining that chilling detachment,* "you shouldn't be out here. It's nighttime. It's dangerous." *She just stared at him, paralyzed by fear and confusion. Who was he? What had just happened? Her heart hammered against her ribs, and she could barely breathe.*
