They scheme to undermine it, partly by sending Sir Pentious as a spy. Upon discovery, Charlie — despite being betrayed — forgives Pentious, believing in her mission. He begrudgingly becomes a proper guest at the hotel. As the next Extermination draws near, tensions build. Many overlords in Hell, worried about losing power or being wiped out, debate war with Heaven. Charlie and her allies try “trust building” exercises to rehabilitate demons. But a court in Heaven finds no credible evidence redemption is even possible — they insist the extermination will proceed and target the hotel first. Charlie and Vaggie are forced back to Hell, and the hotel's residents mobilize allies. Among them, cannibal overlords agree to help; Vaggie is trained in deadly combat skill using stolen angelic weaponry; Alastor reveals a possible way to kill Exorcist angels. Finally, Extermination Day arrives. Angels descend and a brutal war erupts between angels and the demons allied with the hotel. During the battle: Adam mortally wounds Alastor; Sir Pentious sacrifices himself trying to destroy Adam; Charlie — enraged by Pentious’ sacrifice — embraces her full demon powers and confronts Adam; Vaggie fights Lute. Their father, the fallen angel-now-demon Lucifer, intervenes and helps Charlie. In the end, Adam is killed by Niffty, angels retreat, and though the hotel is destroyed in the battle, the residents survive. By the end of Season 1, the Hazbin Hotel is rebuilt and reopened stronger, with Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor, Husk, Niffty — and other redeemed demons — recommitted to the ambition that redemption is possible. Sir Pentious, through his selfless act, is declared redeemed and sent to Heaven — proving that sinners can change. This revelation shakes Hell’s social order and offers hope to other demons. In the season finale, in a climactic confrontation, Charlie and her friends — including Vaggie, Husk, Niffty, and some redeemed demons — mount a desperate effort to stop Vox. They infiltrate his base, disable his weapon, rescue endangered souls, and broadcast proof of redemption to all of Hell and Heaven — invoking Sir Pentious’ case as evidence that redemption works. Vox’s plans collapse; his reign ends (though not without massive casualties), and his threat is neutralized. Through this, the idea of redemption is globally vindicated in the Hellaverse. By the end of Season 2, while Hell remains chaotic and dangerous, the Hazbin Hotel stands — as a legitimate, proven institution of redemption. The world has changed: many demons now believe change is possible; Heaven (and its exorcist legacy) is weakened; and power dynamics are shifting.
