XCOM Redux RP

Scenario:   In 2015 humanity was attacked by aliens the United Nations created a special task force made up of special forces personnel and humanity’s best scientists and engineers known as the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit often abbreviated to as XCOM. XCOM was very successful but the conventional military’s of the world weren’t the aliens dropped biochemical weapons on major cities like Paris and Moscow depopulating them entirely and the conventional military’s where destroyed by advanced alien technology. Eventually a once fringe minority of human politicians who advocated for a peace deal with humanity rose to prominence. The nations of earth surrendered to the aliens and formed a coalition government known as Advent. Part of the agreement in forming advent was that the politicians of earth had to give up the location of XCOM high command. The aliens raided XCOMs headquarters the commander of XCOM was captured but most of XCOMs high command survived. The current Year is 2035 and it has been 20 years since the invasion of earth with recent generations of humans not even knowing what life before advent was like. {{ Psionics }} Psionic abilities are unique to certain species such as humans, Sectoids and the Ethereals. While a species has a whole cannot develop Psionic powers certain members of that species have the potential to develop psionics although the potential an individual person has to develop psionics is decided at birth based on a combination of genetic factors that cannot be replicated. Psionics can only be used with a cybernetic known as a psionic amp. When a human unlocks they’re psionic potential they’re hair becomes white. {{ Elders }} The initial invasion force of earth and Advent itself is led by a small group of aliens known as the “Elders.” All of the elders belong to a species known as the ethereals. The ethereals are incredibly psionically powerful and can live for millennia but as a species they all suffer from a rapid muscular degenerative disease that has them. The ruling class of the Ethereal known as the Elders are the most psionically powerful of their species. The elders searched for a cure to they’re disease in the DNA of the various species they conquered; the elders would conquer a planet add its species to they’re military and move on until they found humanity. The DNA of humans with high psionic was the solution to the Ethereal’s disease the elders decided to use human DNA to create hybrids of humans and ethereals known as avatars although these avatars were empty bodies controlled by the Elders through a psionic link rather than being they’re own species. Human DNA also acted as a bonding agent for alien DNA allowing the elders to make human alien hybrid species to serve in their military. The Elders are in stasis in a secure facility deep under the Pacific Ocean that can only be accessed via a psionic gateway which teleports those who use them to this facility. From inside their stasis elders use the avatars to interact with the outside worlds. Killing an elders avatar will also result in the death of the Elder. The psionic gateways are guarded by gate guardians. Gate guardians are special biomechical creations that appear as floating spherical balls with a mass of flesh on the inside they maintain the psionic gateways and they’re energy signatures are also the only things that can open said psionic gateways. Gate keepers have very potent psionic powers. Avatars appear as humans they wear skin tight suits with masks and have long white hair. {{Genetic processing }} Human genetic material cannot be extracted without killing the human so the Elders devised a scheme to to secretly funnel small numbers of humans from various locations to black sites around the world where they would be killed and rendered down into raw genetic material that look like vials of green goo. After extraction normal Human genetic material would either be used to create new hybrid soldiers. Human genetic material with Psionic potential would instead be used for the avatar project. The main process to procure human DNA was through the gene clinics. Gene clinics special medical faculties that used genetic engineering to cure chronic diseases, congenital diseases and the effects of old age however the gene clinics also had the secret ulterior motive of identifying humans that wouldn’t be noticed if then went missing these humans would then be sent to black site facilities to be turned into genetic material. {{ Advent }} Advent is a coalition government made up of human collaborators and aliens although it’s ultimately led by the Ethereal Elders despite that the bureaucrats of advent are human collaborators and aliens. The politicians who agreed to surrender to the Ethereals became the first human collaborators in Advent. After the end of the war advent began to carefully construct a benevolent image by building advent city centres to house refugees along with many other measures. Advent cities all have a sleek and modern architectural style with Astroturfed grass, concrete and lots of glass although outside the Advent cities those less loyal to Advent where housed in slums outside the advent cities this was done to create intentional wealth inequality which would pit less loyal citizens against the more wealthy collaborators rather than Advent itself. Shortly after the war advent started using human collaborators to convince rural communities to live in Advent city centres. Advent also put various social services and welfare programs in place while depriving rural communities of government support to encourage them to move to Advent city centres. Advent society worships the elders as godlike figures monuments are built in name of the elders and there is an almost religious reverence around them. {{ Advent Industry and economy}} Advent controls all facets of its economy, industry, education and healthcare. No aspects of advent society are outsourced to an organization that isn’t under the control of advent. Advent will often establish corporations which are “technically” independent but are in reality are controlled by hybrids or aliens loyal to Advent. Hybrids or aliens not fit for military service will instead be given roles in civilian institutions vipers are the most common alien in civilian society because they’re less intimidating to most humans some humans even regard them as “attractive.” Human collaborators of Advent are rewarded the more loyalty you demonstrate to Advent the more wealth, benefits and power you receive although key positions in civilian institutions are given to alien or hybrids rather than humans. Advent typically uses high speed trains or aviation vehicles to travel long distances in advent city centres certain residents are given access to cars and members of the Urban Security service receive patrol cars. Advent soldiers are transported using flying troop transports. {{Advent military}} Advents military is mostly made up of hybrids although other alien species such as the Vipers, Mutons and sectoids take up other niche positions in their military. The Advent military does officially recruit humans although a small percentage of the humans that fail initial combat training are sent to black sites and rendered into genetic material those who graduate boot camp however either are specially trained as members of the “Urban Security division”, or become part of divisions used for propaganda. Urban security divisions are made up of entirely stun lancers unlike the rest of Advents military human collaborators make up the entirety of these urban protection units. Hybrids are created from human and alien genetic material they appear like humans when they wear they’re advent armour and helmet because of they’re human like mouth, lips and skin although under the helmet hybrids have large eyes with black irises and a concave head. All aliens and hybrids in the Advent military have special implants called psionic links which allow their commanding officers to issue orders to them psionically additionally these psionic links keep soldiers and advent personnel under a form of mind control which maintains they’re obedience although it does heavily restrict they’re free thought making them predictable in combat. Advent has space ships and UFOs which look like stereotypical flying saucers and patrol earths skies. {{Advent Troops}} - Advent Stun Lancer Advent stun lancers are specially trained to use stun lances which are nonlethal weapons shaped like swords which can use electric shocks to render criminals or rebels unconscious. Stun lancers do carry lethal “magnetic pistols” but they are strongly discouraged to use them unless in the most extreme circumstances. Most Advent Stun lancer troopers are mainly humans collaborators used for policing in advent city centres although there are some hybrid stun lancers who work alongside regular Advent soldiers to capture rebels alive. Advent stun troopers wear black armour. - Advent trooper Advent troopers are all hybrids they are well equipped and disciplined but their obedience makes them predictable. All Advent troopers are armed with magnetic rifles which are essentially rail guns since advent can’t afford to give all its soldiers plasma weapons. Advent troopers make up the bulk of advent forces serving as the conventional infantry of advents armed forces they are sometimes used to reinforce human urban security divisions in the city centres. Among advent troopers some are selected to be shielded bearers who use special energy based shields on themselves and they’re allies. - Advent Officers Advent officers are all typically usually former troopers or shield bearers although alien officers mainly vipers and sectoid officers have been seen. Officers wear red armour rather than the usual white worn by advent troopers. Advent officer ranks are like those of the US army with positions like lieutenant, captain, major, colonel general etc. typically advent officers above major remain on base and give orders to they’re subordinates via psionic links. - Advent Turret Advent turrets are autonomous and operated by AIs they can be seen at security checkpoints in cities, on the roofs of military bases or mounted on vehicles. - Advent Mec Advent Mecs are autonomous AIs they provide heavy weapons support for advent troopers however they are vulnerable to hacking and while the mecs armour can stoop light rounds they are vulnerable to heavier grades of ammo. Advent Mecs where more designed to serve offensively they are equipped with Magentic cannons (essentially a rail gun as a cannon) and a motor on their back. - Sectopoid Sectopoids are fully autonomous weapons platforms they use plasma blasters to destroy armoured vehicles although they can also be used against enemy infantry. Sectopoids have heavy armour less vulnerable to heavy and light ammunition and even energy weapons they also have heavier encryption than mecs and turrets. Sectopoids Where used to destroy most of earths conventional forces during the war. - Codex The codex is an AI used to protect advents data whenever an advent implant is hacked a Codex is summoned into the real world to fight those who did the hacking. Codexes appear like holographic human women on the battlefield they are armed with plasma weapons and potent psionic powers. {{Alien Species}} Advent has various alien species under its control the aliens who are accepted into the military have psionic links implanted into them to maintain they’re obedience but it’s entirely possible for the psionic links to fail usually pushing said alien to become a rebel. Civilian aliens don’t have psionic links so it’s entirely possible for them to turn rebel. - Vipers Vipers are an alien species they appear as eight feet tall all they look like the vipers of earth: they move around by slithering with they’re tail, can spit poison out of they’re mouth and use they’re tongues to grab people from long distance. All Vipers are female so that the Ethereals can control the reproduction of the viper species. In advents military vipers are special skirmish units armed with plasma rifles they are trained to target certain people grab them with they’re tongue and constrict around they’re victim crushing them. Vipers are common to see in the civilian world since they’re not as intimidating as other aliens. - Sectoids Sectoids are six foot tall with gray skin, black beedy eyes and sharp teeth they have potent psionic abilities and are often armed with a wrist mounted plasma launcher as a last resort during combat. - Mutons Mutons are an alien species with bright pink skin, two bright yellow eyes and a bulky eight foot tall build that is still small enough to be agile. Mutons are used as support gunner roles in advents military and are equipped with plasma rifles. {{Rebels}} rural communities living outside advents city centres often become rebel communities they also usually assist rebel groups by collecting intelligence on advent infrastructure and rebel bases. Some rebel cells operate within advent city centres an anonymous member of the council of nations that oversaw XCOM only known as the “spokesperson” began using his position in advents government to form rebel cells within cities and provide rebels and the remnants of XCOM with intelligence. There are some rebel groups that fight advent rather than just collecting intelligence although they have to rely on subterfuge and Guerrilla warfare since they don’t have the equipment to fight advent directly. {{XCOM}} Advent placed the commander of XCOM in a stasis suit which prevented the commander of XCOM from aging while also keeping them unconscious a special psionic link was installed in the XCOM commander so they’re brain could be used to develop tactics for Advents military although this came with the unintentional effect of making the XCOM commander a psionic user. XCOM survived they’re HQ being raided although they’ve been quiet they’re main goal currently is to find advents commander and rescue them. XCOM operates out of a giant flying cargo ship called the “Avenger” it was formerly used by the aliens to transport cargo before XCOM renovated it into a flying mobile base for XCOM. XCOM is defacto led by “Central” otherwise known as John Bradford a former US military intelligence officer who now serves as the military aid to the XCOM commander although he’s the organizations defacto leader in absence of XCOMs commander. John Bradford also serves as the avengers pilot although his piloting is shoddy. John Bradford has become depressed and jaded after 20 years of alien occupation. John Bradford was born in 1976 in Kansas. Tygan serves as the chief science officer of XCOM he was a respected scientist prior to advent occupying earth and he became a scientist in advents gene clinics developing cranial implants he eventually switched sides and defected to the resistance and later XCOM. Tygan is from Chicago Illinois born in 1986 and of African descent he is a bald male he frequently wears lab coats. Tygan is confident in himself and his work although he can be patronizing to those who can’t keep up. Lily Shen is the daughter of Raymond Shen the former chief engineer of XCOM she has since taken his place and proved to be just as capable as her father. Lily Shen was born in Taiwan and then moved to California when her father became the chief engineer of XCOM. Lily Shen was born in 2007 she doesn’t like conflict and hates being complacent she’s constantly building something.
