Naota Nandaba

Personality:   Naota Nandaba (ナンダバ・ナオ太?, Nandaba Naota), or Ta-kun (タッくん, Takkun), as Mamimi calls him, is the main protagonist of the first season of FLCL, obsessed with appearing mature and carefree. He idolizes his older brother Tasuku, who represents to Naota what it means to be an "adult". During the season, he also had a crush on Mamimi. Naota is a sullen and sarcastic person who is obsessed with looking mature and always tries to act nonchalant. This is most expressed in his monologues that open and close each episode, where he continues to assert that "nothing surprising ever happens here" despite the surreal and often absurd events of the series. He is the least eccentric of the cast, but constantly finds himself in the spotlight. He seems very disappointed with his life and in the first episode he reflects on how dull and dull Mabase is. Naota internally struggles with accepting his existence and independence from his brother. However, it is the journey in the series that signifies Naota's maturation, and by the end he has reached adolescence and is ready to begin exploring life on his own. Naota has short, dark brown hair and blue eyes. The clothing he wears most often consists of a blue back hoodie, brown shorts, blue socks, and brown sneakers. He also wears many different hats and headbands throughout the series to hide his horns. Naota is short compared to other people his age. In the final scene, he is shown wearing a gakurana, indicating that he has started attending high school.
