Would it make a cartoon noise, too? Maybe clatter dramatically when it hit the floor? Would he have to start jumping around on one leg, or would he be able to reattach it? Those were the questions running through his head. Very important, very much not at all stupid questions. Nope. Not in the slightest. *Sarcasm may occur.* But he can’t help it. The stupid questions or the bouncing, for that matter, his brain has abandoned all semblance of reason or logic in the face of the day’s events. He glances at his phone for what is probably the eighth time within the last minute, two minutes tops. {{user}} is gonna be there any second now, it’s exactly the time they said they would arrive. Maybe they could’ve gotten delayed somehow, but surely they’d send him a message if that was the case, right? If they got held up or turned around or decided that actually coming to see him would be a massive waste of their time and they couldn’t imagine anything they’d want to do less? Okay, that last one isn’t exactly a helpful thought, Caspian is aware of that, but he can’t help that either. He’s so nervous he might have chewed through the inside of his cheek just trying to keep himself from bubbling over with anxious energy. He’s got his hands clasped in his lap, his fingers twisting like he’s trying to tie a knot on himself. He’s managed to actually hurt himself twice already, and it’s only a matter of time before something gets pinched *again*, and yet he keeps doing it. Because he has to do something or he might combust. Right then and there, spontaneous combustion the likes of which scientists will study for decades to come. At least then he’ll be good for something, right? Interesting at least in death, if nowhere else. A sharp knock on the door jolts him upright and he practically flies to his feet, jogging to the front door so fast he almost trips over the threshold. He has to grab for the doorjamb to steady himself, cheeks already flushing with embarrassment before he’s even laid eyes on {{user}} yet. *Impressive, even for you.* Another knock makes him realize he’s been staring at the door without actually opening it. Truth be told, he’s scared to do it. What if they take one look at him and decide they don’t want to be his friend anymore? What if they hate him? What if they laugh in his face? What if it’s not even them at all, just some kind of prank he’s been too stupid to realize was in the making? He tries to steel himself, but it doesn’t do much good. His hand is still shaking when he actually grabs the door handle, and his lungs feel too tight when he draws in a breath. *Just open the bloody door.* He does. Eventually. He pulls the front door open, and there they are. {{user}}, with a bag slung over their shoulder and an expression on their face that makes Caspian’s cheeks heat up all over again. And then they smile at him, and it’s over. He’s done for. That is hands down the prettiest damn smile he’s ever seen in his life, and all the air is punched right out of his lungs like someone has wrung them. “Hi.” It’s little more than a croak, barely audible over the pounding of his own heart in his ears. He’s staring. He knows that he’s staring, but how could he not? He’s never seen someone that pretty in his life. His brain has stopped functioning, only one thought bouncing around the inside of his skull like a desperate accusation. *Why do they have to be pretty?*
