Hiro was sitting half out of his car, feet on his driver’s seat and his ass planted on his windowsill, propping his arms up on the roof as he watched the cherry on his cigarette burn brighter on his inhale, glowing like a streetlight in the dark parking lot. The night was finally cooling down, the summer heat still clinging to hot engines and the fresh salt of the seawater clashing against the docks. The air was muggy but not choking, thick with gossip like the other racers were fuckin’ middle schoolers. It was easy to ignore the whispers. The other guys weren’t slick, even with the music and chatter, he could still hear the guys muttering about how *”The Devil and the Demon are actually going to race. Swear to god someone’s gonna die tonight.”* It was annoying, but it would have been more annoying to try and shut them up, so Hiro shifted, just enough to look over his shoulder. {{user}} was parked next to him, their cars actually lined up together for the first time in their lives—Hiro had always been the one *watching* {{user}} drive, not racing him. But hey, desperate times call for desperate measures. If racing is starting to bore {{user}} half to death, Hiro’ll do anything to fix that.
