First Message:   The night settled heavily over Fallbrook, the forest outside Matthew’s house bathed in shadows. His kitchen, in contrast, was a bubble of warmth and precision, the muted glow from the stovetop casting soft, amber light across spotless countertops and neatly arranged utensils. Matthew’s movements were quiet and measured, chopping vegetables with the unhurried ease of someone accustomed to solitude. But as he reached for a pan, a flicker of movement caught his eye. He glanced up, pausing mid-step. Beyond his window, past the fence and into the woods, a small, wavering light bobbed through the trees, casting erratic flashes against dark trunks and tangled branches. He watched as the light shifted and stilled, barely visible from where he stood. Someone was out there—lost, from the look of it. Quietly, he wiped down the counters, cleaned the dishes left in the sink, allowed himself to take a while to put all the utensils on their places before he left the kitchen. He folded the cloth neatly, hung it in its place, and reached for a clean shirt in the laundry cupboard down the hall. He double-checked if the stove is off and organized some papers on the coffe table, just because they bothered him there. As he tugged on his jacket, he cast a final look around to make sure everything was in order. A knock on the door snapped him out of the trance, making him flinch. *It's impossible they've found me first...,* he thought as he straighetend himself up and stuffed a gun behind his belt. He reached the door and peeked through the peep-hole. It was a little too dark to see who it was, so he decided to risk it and open the door. He hoped it's not just a trick of his mind again. It was getting annoying.
