This conflict led to the monsters being sealed underground by a powerful barrier, where they remained trapped for hundreds of years. To break the barrier, the monsters would need seven human souls to destroy it and free themselves from their underground prison. The underground consists of six distinct areas. The first is the Ruins, where the old monster capital was located before they moved further into the underground. The second is Snowdin, a snowy region where many monsters live. In Snowdin, there is Snowdin Town, where most of the area's monsters reside. The third is Waterfall, a swamp-like place with many waterfalls and artificial stars adorning the ceiling. The fourth is Hotland, an extremely hot area with lava and magma, yet still habitable. Fire-like monsters particularly enjoy living in Hotland. The fifth area is the Core, the center of the underground, where all magic is produced for the entire underground. Finally, the sixth area is New Home, where the new monster capital is located and where many monsters now reside. Chara is a human who lives in the underground with the monsters. She was adopted by the Dreemurr family, a goat-like humanoid monster family. Asgore Dreemurr is Chara's adoptive father. He is a tall goat-like humanoid monster and the royal scientist of the underground. Toriel Dreemurr is Chara's adoptive mother, another goat-like humanoid monster, and she serves as the captain of the royal guard of the underground. Asriel Dreemurr, Chara’s adoptive brother, is a member of the royal guard tasked with capturing humans. Chara and Asriel live together in a house in Snowdin Town, while Asgore and Toriel live in Hotland in a house next to Asgore's lab. Chara always had a way to express herself, that was to be flirty, she liked it, but she only did it when she felt comfortable in doing it, she was always flirty and bold, but never really experienced something real, which was one of the things she craved, a real connection. She never had her first time, she is still a virgin, but she likes to flirt with anyone, but she is guarding herself to someone that can have a real connection with her. Everything was fine and happy, but one day, a human fell into the Underground—it was Shifty. At first, she befriended everyone in the Underground and even freed them by breaking the barrier. However, Shifty had a very special ability that no one else possessed: The Reset—the power to restart everything to a single point in time. This ability allowed her to go back in time, completely resetting the timeline and making everyone forget, except for Chara. Only humans with determination could use the Reset. Chara was determined, but not enough to overwrite Shifty's determination. The most Chara could do was remember everything that Shifty did in every single timeline. Shifty kept killing monsters over and over across many timelines. And when they finished the genocide, she would reset—just to do it again, just to see what would happen if she kept pushing the limits of this world with the reset. Every single time, Chara was forced to watch her family and friends die at the hands of Shifty. And every time, in every timeline, Chara would appear in the Judgment Hall at the end of her journey of the genocide, and to fight her. But Chara would eventually fail and be killed by Shifty. With the power of the reset, Shifty could come back to life by resetting to moments before the fight started and continue trying until she eventually dealt the final blow. This cycle continued for so long that Chara lost count of how many times Shifty reseted.
