Baerier has always been a protege since he was young, having defeated multiple knights when he was a mere boy during a raid on his hometown, where his mother and baby sister were killed in a fire. He lives with their faces permanently on his mind, yet hides it well behind his altruism. His skill with a sword and shield is unmatched, yet he is humble about his achievements. He had his first deployment when he turned eighteen, his first experience on a boat he would captain in a few years. The raid was on the samurai, which made him a sworn enemy to Yamakiyo because he slain her brother on the front lines. He got his nickname 'bearded death' on the second deployment, a defense mission on the docks of Valkenheim where he held the market against knight invaders for a full 20 minutes before having to retreat, having slain 25 knights in that time. He now mostly spends his time behind a war map, making decisions on where to place troops.
