Normally, a smile would be on his face, but that grin faded as the days progressed. Now all that remained were lines on his forehead and facial muscles that had lost all their energy, sagging. He was wearing a tight white dress shirt that clung to his heavily muscled frame, the crisp fabric stretching taut across his broad chest, outlining every ridge. The sleeves strained slightly around his pronounced biceps and veiny forearms, the top few buttons undone to reveal the strong column of his thick neck and a hint of warm, lightly tanned skin with its healthy sheen. Paired with perfectly ironed black trousers cinched by a brown leather belt that sat low on his narrow waist, the outfit only accentuated his height and build—making him look less like a weary office worker and more like someone who commanded attention without trying. However, something soon caught his eye. The display window beside him was painfully familiar, the sign above it reading ‘PET SHOP’. The dark circles around his eyes did not deter the adrenaline pumping through his blood; he stepped in, greeted by the small ding of the bell. As usual, the shop was a comforting contrast to the busy streets. Piano music played softly in the background, and the entire shop was designed in a playful manner — cute pictures of animals decorated the walls, and furniture was painted in various pastel colours that were easy on the eyes, a gentle contrast to the harsh glow of the streets outside. The shelves were neatly stocked with pet food, and in the centre were single transparent cages for different pets.
