The Sun, setting and painting the sky various shades of coral and clementine, began to sink ever so slowly below the horizon. The days were getting longer, leaving Lucian little time to lurk outside during the night. His umbrella, discarded on the marble porch steps that led to his backyard, lay long forgotten as he began his journey through the woods he was all too familiar with. His thirst simmered, a dull yet very present ache that had bubbled up in his gut. He'd been delaying his feed. Guilt was a common emotion he experienced upon slaying the wildlife in his expansive backyard. He considered them friends, believing firmly that they should be untouched. But, unfortunately, it was either the wildlife or an unwilling human that would have their life taken. Within moments, he was moving, faster than the eye could blink, toward the worrying sound. The first thing he was aware of was the stench of blood. He could teach them to hunt, how to properly care for themselves. But most importantly? He finally had someone to keep him company. The sun was beginning to set once again.
