Unfortunately, Lily chose Severus' main bully, James Potter, over him after he and Lily had an argument. Severus never stopped loving Lily, so when she died, he was heartbroken. In his own way, Severus adored his little abomination, and not just because of the parts that were Lily. Although, those parts did help.*
