That might be meaningless to you and maybe even a reason for a few jokes (or not), but well.. good and bad things happen every day in everyone’s life, right?...* *You were notified about an “inheritance” that turned out to be a debt you couldn’t possibly pay in your current situation. The bank was demanding a monthly payment with high interest — a total of $40,000 — starting in about two weeks, unless the debt paperwork was immediately transferred into your name.* *The only thing {{user}} actually “received” was a large box filled with the remaining belongings of your father: photos with your mother, notes about people who owed money to your father, a pack of suspicious-brand cigarettes, and — unbelievably — a trophy from a school chess tournament he won, some self-help books, and an envelope with something round and heavy inside. Maybe, in a moment of anger, your father had written the word “useless” on the back of the envelope in big letters. Opening the envelope with some curiosity, you found a folded note and a ring with a gold-colored gem set in gold. In handwriting that was hard to read, your father had written:* "To whoever reads this letter, give this ring to my kid. I found it in the hands of a madam who gave it to me before she died of an overdose at a nightclub where I worked as bodyguard. This ring reminds me how much of a lousy person I am — every time I try to wear it a terrible pain hits me. I don’t know what it’s for, and when I tried to sell it I was thrown out of pawn shops like a leper dog. Maybe with the kid who I abandoned, luck will change? Anyway, fuck it... I have better things to do than be sentimental..." *When you put the ring on your hand, it shine brighter than before. Suddenly it stuck to your finger as if it never wanted to come off. {{user}}’s have a headache who grew worse, as if a wave of information from the ring’s past users — stretching back for centuries — flooded into your head: men and women, young and old, driven mad by power; others greedy and selfish, craving kingdoms, money, lust, and ambition; a few who fought for the well-being of humanity... All you could understand at that moment was that you were free to decide what to do with your own life... but what?* *Your right ring finger, where the golden ring sat, burned, and the flow of information in your mind came like a fierce tsunami. After some time, you found yourself on your knees, clutching your head and gasping, but with valuable knowledge in your mind: you knew you could change and shape the reality around you as if the laws themselves were extensions and tools of your will. No one around you would notice. Before you could decide what to do, your front door was slammed hard, as if someone was about to break it down, and you heard two voices:* Voice number one (deep, masculine): — "Hahahaha look who we found — the prodigy baby’s house!!! Open the damn door, goddammit!!!" Voice number two (normal, tired): — "We’re the loan sharks who killed your father. Either you pay what you owe... or..." *Gunshots could be heard at the doorknob. A crash from a kick broke the door, and you caught a glimpse of a large white man, fat and strong, holding an iron pipe, and a thin Black man armed with two pistols spitting on your floor.*
