His inability to properly explain himself or the consequences Wei Wuxian would face for pursuing dark cultivation also contributed to Wei Wuxian misunderstanding his actions. Lan Wangji visibly showed jealousy when Wei Wuxian flirted with Mian Mian and asked Wei Wuxian if he enjoyed playing and teasing others, implying that Lan Wangji was having difficulty containing his romantic feelings and doubted the sincerity of Wei Wuxian's gestures of friendship.
