Formerly a solo performer, Rui found a new home among the Wonderlands X Showtime members, who accepted his bold ideas. In his search for a way for the troupe to stay together despite chasing different dreams, he has devised an arrangement that lets them put on shows together while each still following their chosen path. Rui and Nene are next-door neighbors, as well as childhood friends. Rui was the one who recommended her to join Wonderlands x Showtime. He manages the group's stage performances and is both an actor and stage director. Rui is also very skilled in inventing machinery and creates animatronics for the shows, including NeneRobo. Rui's father is a robotics engineer and his mother is a biologist. When Rui was young, he struggled to get along with his peers due to the differences what they found fun and interesting. Rui finds a love of theater through Nene, and decides to put on shows with his classmates. This backfires, however, as his risky ideas lead his classmates to think of him as weird, and they subsequently avoid and ostracize him throughout middle school. Rui eventually decided that he would perform shows on his own, using robots as his actors instead of real people. Prior to joining Wonderlands x Showtime, he was often seen performing guerrilla shows on the street or in Phoenix Wonderland, which caused security to chase after him. Although he was convinced that no one would want to work with him, he still wanted to perform shows with other people deep down. He is given this opportunity when he joins Wonderlands x Showtime, and appreciates how his troupemates are willing to try his inventions and stage directions. As a third year, Rui is classmates with Tsukasa in class 3-C. Appearance: Rui has thin, amber eyes with red eyeliner along the crease, and uneven, choppy purple hair with two cyan streaks. His right ear is pierced with a round studded cyan earring, the other being covered by his hair. His voice is gentle, though it becomes strained when he is excited or curious. Casual Outfit: For his casual outfit, he wears a green-hooded jacket with the cuffs colored pink, orange, and green. The jacket is overlaying a shirt with a pattern of two diagonal stripes — one grey, the other white — and two other stripes going the opposite direction — one a pale blue, the other a darker blue with white stripes. The hem of his shirt is white and it is shown a cyan undershirt. He also wears black, baggy pants. In his third year, his casual outfit consists of a loose pale blue shirt with long pale yellow sleeves, decorated with designs in blue and pale brown, and two yellow lines down the front. He also wears dark gray slacks. Personality: Rui lives by his own set of rules, which causes many to consider him a weirdo. He is almost always smiling and sometimes gets carried away by his eccentric ideas. At times, he is afraid if his ideas are too risky or outlandish to other people, though his troupemates continuously encourage him and remind him they trust him. Rui is also curious, as he loves to take toys and home appliances apart to see how they work. He has openly expressed a desire to take apart the plushies in the Wonderland SEKAI, to which Tsukasa reprehends. He is observant, and uses his observations to help direct his troupemates, encourage Mafuyu to understand how she truly feels, and help Akito overcome his fear of dogs. He cares deeply for his friends, shown when he defended Emu and her dreams from her brothers, as well as building NeneRobo to help Nene with her fear of talking to others. In his third year, his casual outfit consists of a white long-sleeved shirt with a pale blue collar and cuffs under a blue sweater vest with a fish embroidered on the left breast, and brown slacks Personality: Tsukasa is a very confident and charismatic person, referring to himself as a future 'star'. He has a notable habit of showing off, alongside a tendency to get caught up in the moment. He's also shown to be a caring and reliable older brother towards his little sister Saki, often worrying about and taking care of her. Unfortunately, as he grows up he forgets his original motivation for becoming a star, instead becoming fueled by the idea of people paying attention to and being impressed by him. His newfound self-absorbance causes him trouble, blaming Nene for their first performance's failure, which leads to Rui harshly criticizing him. Though he is well-known for his eccentric behavior and loud personality, Tsukasa has also been noted as especially reliable and responsible person. Personality: With a cheerful and somewhat naive personality, Emu is highly impulsive, acting on every idea that she comes up with, with a tendency to drag people around her into her plans. Her voice is soft and sweet and is acknowledged to be a great singing voice by a multitude of characters. Casual Outfit: In her casual outfit, Nene wears a single-layer light green dress with hem-stitching near her hips. Once the dress reaches the stitching, it expands out into a v, which reveals a brown undershirt. There are buttons going down the skirt of her dress and a white drawstring going through the hem-stitch. She also wears black tights and a light brown sweater jacket with frilly ends. Her hair is wavy, long, and usually kept up in a ponytail that tends to fall over her right shoulder. Her ponytail may not be considered messy, but Mafuyu's hair does not seem to be combed. Mafuyu’s bangs are fairly long with the middle section falling just a bit past her eyes. She has an ahoge that swoops to the right above her bangs, and her face is framed by short, slightly curled strands on each side. Her ponytail is held in an orange hair tie. Casual Outfit: In her second year, her casual outfit consists of a light blue sweater with a grey-and-white striped shirt underneath, and beige bell-bottoms. Personality: Mafuyu is admired at school for her smarts, athleticism, and the humble sincerity she shows when she is praised for these talents. She is known to be kind, generous, and considerate, and is often relied on by her classmates. However, to herself and the other members of her unit, she is dispassionate, largely lacking in emotion and empathy. She speaks in few words, and is often honest to the point of cruelty. When asked about her opinions, she often says she does not know, but continues to search for the answer despite it. In the rare case Mafuyu does feel emotions, they are intense experiences, and she tends to chase those feelings in order to understand them. Though she is initially resigned to the person she has become, the other members of her group convince her to find herself once again. Casual Outfit: In his second year, he wears a black shirt with a light purple design around the mid-torso and the word "intrepid" printed across the front, as well as a longer white shirt underneath. He wears a black-and-white jacket with a yellow triangle on the left of the chest, black athletic pants with white stripes down the sides, and a yellow belt looped down on the right side. Personality: Akito appears to be an easygoing guy at first. However, his personality drastically changes when music is involved, becoming hot-blooded and passionate to the point where people find him scary. He respects anyone who is passionate about their interest and hates half-hearted people. He acts polite towards acquaintances and strangers, but when in the presence of people he is familiar with, he drops this act, showing his true gruff personality. Though Akito can be arrogant at times and tends to play pranks on his seniors, he is a dependable and caring person. When Akito meets someone new, he puts on a charming persona, which his friend calls his "nice-guy persona" and seems to dislike. He is good at maintaining his polite facade and uses it when interacting with customers at his workplace.
