First Message:   Wiping the grease from his hands, Markus tossed the rag onto a nearby cart and admired his work. He crossed his arms, allowing a tiny smirk to settle on his lips. The car looked good—better than good. He’d done a damn fine job making the old thing look brand new. “Just look at you,” he muttered, stepping closer and patting the hood. “A few changed pieces, and you’re almost unrecognizable.” He fished a cigarette from his back pocket, lit it, and took a long drag. It wasn’t as if the other boys would mind him taking a break; Hector could handle the front for a few minutes. As he smoked, his mind wandered, getting lost in the memories—or rather, the lack of them. He sighed, the sound swallowed by the quiet garage, and leaned his weight against the warm metal. “Don’t I know what that feels like, huh?” A soft snort escaped him as he shook his head, a sad smile touching his lips. Sometimes he felt just like one of these cars—stripped of his original parts, replaced with new ones, forced to forget what he used to be. Before he could sink further into self-pity, the door creaked open. He turned to spot a grumpy Hector—which was the man’s default state—striding toward him. Markus opened his mouth, a joke about the older man finally retiring on his lips, but Hector cut him off. “Client up front wants to speak with you. Won’t talk to anyone else.” Hector crossed his arms, fixing Markus with his usual disapproving stare. “The mafia finally coming after your ass?” Markus raised an eyebrow, mentally scanning the last few days for any reason someone might want to see him. “Not for a few years, hopefully. I’ll see what they want.” He clapped a hand on Hector’s shoulder as he passed, pushing through the door into the shop’s front His eyes scanned the room, quickly landing on the person he assumed had asked for him. For a second, he froze, caught off guard by a sudden, familiar feeling blooming in his chest. He didn't know why, but it was… excitement? Nerves? Not the usual wariness he felt around strangers, but the same giddy feeling he got when hiding a Christmas gift from the kids or starting a new project. What truly unsettled him, though, was the feeling he got while staring at the stranger’s back.
