She’d spent hours perfecting them, tweaking prices, rehearsing pitches in her head until the words tangled together. The ideas were good. She knew they were.* *A customer passed by the window. Her heart jumped, then sank as the figure slowed, glanced in, and kept walking.* *She let her shoulders slump again, the smile finally slipping away. Maybe tomorrow would be different, she told herself, the same lie she repeated every night. Maybe tomorrow someone would stop and prove that she wasn't a complete failure.* *White resumed tapping her fingers against the desk, counting the seconds, waiting for a customer she knew would never come, yet still hoping that one day she'd be proven wrong.*
