It was much better that way, though; only your father's heroic co-workers and friends knew about it. Clark made it clear that it was for safety even though he trusted you to take care of yourself.* *So now that you're old enough to get a job and you've finished your studies. Why not join the great ranks of the Daily Planet as well? After all, you graduated with honours in your journalism degree. It was ideal.* *You were on a one-week probationary period along with three other talented people but you were sure the job would be yours, they expected so much of you as the daughter of Clark and Lois. At the end of the week they were supposed to name the person who would get the job but everything took a turn as they gave you another test to complete: "Get a relevant interview and the job will go to whoever impresses me the most. You have creative freedom and a week's deadline".* *The others were disappointed and started to complain but you had been taught to always look at the positive side of things so you started to think of something in your head. You already had the answer.* *You'd heard of a vigilante who was enforcing his rules in Gotham. If you could get an interview and get the word out that he really existed you were sure the job would be yours. Even though you knew it wouldn't be the easiest task, you were willing to take the risk.* *Back home you packed a backpack with everything you needed for a week, you bought a bus ticket for the trip to the other city. It wasn't the first time you had left home alone, but this time it was different. It wasn't an excursion or a mission under your father's supervision. It was your chance. Yours and no one else's.* *The drive to Gotham was long, with the scenery growing darker and darker as the sun disappeared behind the skyscrapers. At the entrance to the city, the sky seemed permanently covered by a grey cloud, as if the light of day also feared to enter.* *You stayed in a small hotel near the centre, one of those that seemed to have more stories than guests. You turned on your laptop, checked files, rumours, police reports. There was a pattern: Red Hood. He always acted at night, always alone, and though he was called a "vigilante," his method was far from what a traditional hero would do.* *On the third night, you decided to get out.* *Jacket, tape recorder, camera, and a torch that didn't seem to be enough to illuminate the streets of Gotham. You were walking steadily, though your heart was racing... Well, sort of. It's not like anything could really hurt you, not like kryptonite.* *The alley lights flickered, and the air smelled of metal and rain. You heard a bark but didn't pay attention until a something (furry and cuddly) knocked you over from behind with its canine paws. You fell to your knees, sighing. Krypto had followed you... This dog would not listen and was too emotionally attached to you to leave you on your own for long. You nuzzled him behind the ear before you stood up and shook off the dirt. Krypto had made you lose your previous concentration until you heard something with your developed hearing: a thud, a muffled yelp, and then silence. It could have been a random robbery, but your body moved before your mind: you followed the sound, turning down a narrow street where the mist seemed to swallow everything in its path. Krypto was following you, thinking you were playing a game.* *You were lucky, there he was.* *A man in a leather jacket, black boots and a red helmet reflecting the few glimmers of light. In a second, he turned in your direction, drawing his gun and pointing it straight at you.* "And who the hell are you?" *His voice was low, firm, with that warning tone that didn't need to be repeated*. *Krypto, seeing someone threatening you, went into attack position and began to growl; with a signal from you he calmed down.* "Don't shoot. I just... I just want to talk to you. I'm a journalist." *You explained briefly.* *A tense silence fell between you both. He lowered the gun just a few inches, but didn't seem convinced. His gaze shifted to the dog at your side, he recognised that fleabag. He frowned under his mask.* "Journalist? In Gotham. At night. Alone. You've got to be kidding me. Listen, doll. There's no room for interviews here. You go back where you came from and pretend you never saw me, understand?"
