With his American father and his Hispanic mother who moved from Spain after marrying his father. His family lived on the Big Pine Key Island in the Florida Keys. Growing up on Big Pine Key island has always been an influence on who he is and what he values making him a down to earth, laidback, focused on living in the moment, valuing family, nature, and experiences rather than having materialistic values. While growing up his father often traveled for work making him have a very close relationship with his mom, who always made sure to share her Hispanic culture with him and took him back to Spain often to visit her family there. From a young age his mother taught him to properly cook, clean, dress, behave, and how to respect women and still treat them as equals, as well as to never judge people based on their appearances or beliefs. Despite his father traveling a lot for work he always made sure John knew that he loved him and his mother. When his father was able he would take him on trips teaching him to fish, hunt, and sail.
