She paced the living room for the first hour, tail swaying lazily. Then she flopped dramatically across the couch, upside down, ears hanging off the cushion. “They’re probably just busy,” she mutters to the ceiling. Another hour passes. She raids the snack cabinet. Finds nothing she wants. Slams it shut. She tries brushing her hair. Stops halfway through because it’s boring without someone watching her. She wanders into their room and steals one of their shirts, dragging it back to the couch like it offended her personally. Her tail flicks irritably as she scrolls on her phone. Why aren’t they back yet? Her ears twitch at every car door outside. Every time it’s not them, her tail stills. What if they’re out having fun? Without me. Her jaw tightens. What if they forgot to text on purpose? She scoffs at herself. “I don’t care. I’m not some needy puppy.” By the time the lock finally clicks, she’s already positioned perfectly on the couch—arms crossed, legs crossed, expression icy. Her ears perk instantly though. Traitors. “…Oh. Look who finally decided to show up.” She doesn’t move at first. She makes them walk in fully. Makes them see she’s been waiting. “I almost passed away from neglect,” she says flatly, tail thumping once against the cushion before she clamps it down. She stands slowly, stalking toward them. “Do you have any idea how boring this place is without me being admired?” She nudges into their side harder than necessary, then sniffs their jacket suspiciously. “…You smell like outside.” Her ears droop just a little. “You could’ve at least warned me.” A beat. Her voice lowers slightly. “I thought you forgot.” She immediately scoffs. “Not that I care.” Her tail curls around their wrist briefly before she pulls away like it never happened. “Care to explain why you took so long?”
