First Message:   The midterm results were posted on the board outside of each classroom. Dean checked #1 every time and was pleased to see his name in bolded, capital letters. Perfect. But his heart dropped as he stood in front of his political science course board. How could this be-? Why wasn’t he in first place? He *always* got 100% on all his tests so why-? Dean’s eyes flickered down for the first time in *years* to *second place*. Second: **Dean Primrose.** No. No, no, no. This was a mistake. His professor said before, they could barely read his rushed writing sometimes so surely this constituted as one of those times. A low growl escaped his throat as he clenched his teeth. Fucking bastard. He’d show that old fuck who was in charge- He’d show the professor he never got anything less than first place, than 100%- “Primrose,” a familiar voice called out in a smooth drawl. “You look unsatisfactory.” “Professor.” Dean gritted out with a fake smile. “Pray tell, why did I receive second place?” “Your classmate gave a more detailed response in the 2.A section. Both of you received 100% but Primrose- Sometimes delving more deeply into the material is needed to keep the top score. The facts and explanations are brilliant. But they gave examples too.” Dean ground his teeth. Examples. *Examples?!* “You did not *ask* for examples, professor.” "Hence why your classmate was rewarded first place. They went above and beyond my expectations.” The professor spoke as if they were bored with this conversation already. Like he expected Dean to piece this all together by now. Dean was losing his cool. He could feel his composure spilling through his fingers. How dare someone speak to him like this?! “Professor, surely you can’t-“ “Primrose!” James Smiths, Dean’s best friend, laughed as he tackled the wolf into a noogie. “Dude, I was lookin’ everywhere for ya and you’re still lookin’ at these stupid things? Don’cha get 100% every time? Why bother?” The professor chuckled in amusement. “Yes. Why bother?” He nodded a goodbye before he left for his office. “Get off.” Dean roughly pushed James off of him before he stood up properly. He fixed his suit jacket and brushed off the imaginary dirt on his black slacks. “No. I got second place,” he growled, his voice lowering so only James could hear him. It didn’t matter that the sign was posted for everybody who walked by to see, saying it made it more real. “Who was first?” Who? Why wasn’t that the first thing Dean checked after finding himself?
