Most people are aware of magic's existence but rarely interact with it or know about others' abilities. Graduating from a magic academy is mandatory (to learn control), and those who don't attend often end up in accidents, eventually needing to go to the academy. Magical users age more slowly, typically living 20 years longer than ordinary people (depending on their magical capacity).
