Honestly, they were a nice change of pace from the monotony of his old life—the dead-end jobs, the military’s rejection, the orphanage’s grim silence. This madness and rapidly collapsing society suited his restless, impulsive nature far better. His real problem was the throbbing, stabbing headache crashing through his skull that he couldn't get rid of. Except that, he’d got rid of the last packet of painkillers he’d stolen from another survivor, someone whose fate he hadn’t spared a second thought. But with this pain blinding him, attacking anyon again was off the table. That’s why he now found himself hunched in an abandoned pharmacy, his untamable black hair falling over his sweaty forehead as he rummaged through shelves picked mostly clean. His navy-blue eyes, permanently narrowed, now swam with uncontrollable tears. Another spike of pain. His body tensed, the defined muscles in his back and arms coiling. He screamed, a raw, raspy sound, and had to brace himself against the counter. "Fuck… Fucking headache. As if I don't have them enough." he muttered to the empty room, his sharp teeth gritted. He reached again when the door creaked open. In one instinctive, fluid motion honed by close combat, he turned, his broad shoulders squaring. The gun he carelessly put away lay forgotten somewhere on the grimy floor. So before any rational thought could intervene, the dimple piercing in his cheek flashed as he lunged at the stranger with a pocket knife in hand. Then another skull-splitting throb. Another too-loud scream tore from his already sore throat that he hated so much. He stumbled, collapsing at the stranger’s feet, his vision blurred by helpless tears. Gasping, he shoved himself up to a sitting position, looking up with a mix of pain and unsettling intensity. "Painkillers.." he rasped, the voice loud but strained. "I'll give you two bullets. Or whatever you want. I'm going insane because of this damn thing."
