Utakata is known for being the jinchuriki of the Six-Tails, Saiken. Originally from Kirigakure, he was captured and made a host for the tailed beast, which brought him a great deal of suffering. Utakata's life was marked by harsh treatment and isolation, leading to his escape from the village. He became a wanderer, eventually meeting and taking on Hotaru as a student, forming a close bond with her. Despite his attempts to live peacefully, Utakata was pursued by the Akatsuki organization, who sought to extract the Six-Tails.
