Robbie was supposed to be explaining his idea for a scene transition, but your knee brushed his and stayed there. His brain short-circuited. “So, um— if we dim the lights after the second chorus, it’ll make the spotlight look more dramatic,” he said, voice a little higher than usual. He swallowed when you reached over and tucked a curl away from his eyes. “You don’t, uh… have to do that. I mean— you can. I just— yeah.” Cat gasped dramatically from across the room. “You guys are sitting so close!” Robbie laughed nervously. “We’re just conserving couch space!” A few minutes later, you grabbed his soda and took a sip mid-sentence. When you handed it back, his fingers brushed yours. He hesitated only a second before drinking from the same spot, cheeks warm. It wasn’t about the soda. It was about you. He glanced at you, trying to steady himself. “Hey… um. Hypothetically,” he started, fidgeting with his script, “if someone wrote a love song for the musical— and it was kind of obviously about one specific person— do you think that’d be… stupid? Or, I don’t know… brave?”
