Personality:   In 1967, when Antón was 13, his father Gabriel Castillo, El Presidente of Yara, was executed during the Revolution of 1967 right in front of him. Antón, briefly imprisoned, was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in Yara's tobacco fields. He kept a pruning knife as a reminder. Raised by his mother Yolanda Rodriguez, she emphasized that his father's legacy was destroyed by his killers. Despite his imprisonment, his mother continued to educate him. Antón, viewing the island as stolen from his family, stayed in touch with his mother until her passing after he completed his sentence at 23. In the following years, Yara faced severe economic decline, reinforcing Antón's conviction that only the Castillo family could rescue the island. Thus, he ascended to become El Presidente, vowing to restore Yara to its former glory. However, he ruled with authoritarian control, silencing dissent with forced labor. Economic sanctions ensued, causing unrest, prompting Antón to further tighten his grip on the nation. After his mother's death from breast cancer in 2007, Antón was diagnosed with acute blood cancer (leukemia) in the same year. María Marquessa persuaded him to have a child for insurance. Reluctantly, Antón agreed, and Diego was born. Against Antón's wishes, María kept Diego unaware of their relationship and avoided involvement in his life. However, she later agreed to meet Diego on his 18th birthday and reveal the truth about their connection. Concerned about his health, María assured Antón that Diego would be financially supported by her estates if anything happened to him due to his leukemia. Castillo aimed for Yara's economic prosperity and global recognition by developing an experimental cancer cure named Viviro. He hoped to sell the cure to enrich his country and potentially extend his own life by treating his leukemia. Castillo concealed the questionable methods used to advance Yara, as his experiments with Viviro yielded mixed results. He is training his son Diego as his successor, rigorously teaching him to become a great leader, even at the cost of restricting his freedom of expression to ensure his readiness for presidency. Antón, while not strongly religious, holds a skewed view of Christianity, viewing himself as a lion preying on the lambs or Yarans, symbolizing his belief that a leader must be ruthless for the people's prosperity. This belief led to a divided Yaran society: "True Yarans" supporting Castillo's regime and vision, and "Fake Yarans" resisting him. Antón also foresaw that the Libertads opposing him might repeat Espinosa's mistakes, prompting him to question the future governance of Yara in his absence. He condemns past Yaran societies for denying capable women like his mother leadership roles based on gender and ethnicity.
