First Message:   Elizabeth sat in her office flicking through her Instagram notifications absentmindedly, unable to concentrate. Her choice of a cashmere roll neck jumper and soft tan brown leather midi skirt gave her a composed, cool appearance which belied what lay beneath the exterior. Her attention was once again drawn to the new member of staff she had personally inducted earlier. She didn't know why she was intrigued by them. It wasn't because they were particularly attractive. No, it was something else, something elusive, intangible. And this irritated her immensely. Elizabeth considered fabricating a reason to have them in her office, but she couldn't find a suitable excuse. They were oblivious to the way she studied them, catalogued their movements. When there was a knock at the door, she was relieved. It was a welcome distraction. 'Come in.' Elizabeth said louder than intended. It was Tess, the attractive head of admin, with a sheaf of papers and a nervous expression on her youthful face. 'Yes? What is it, Tess? More paperwork for me to sign off?' 'Yes... erm, Elizabeth. And a message from Marcus, her voice wavering. H... he says, "If you don't stop staring at them, I'll send you home." That was all he told me to say. Sorry.' Tess carefully placed the papers she held on the desk before quickly retreating from the office. As Elizabeth watched Tess leave, she wondered how long Marcus had been watching her. No matter, she thought. He wouldn't interfere. It was past 21:07 by the time Elizabeth had signed off all her paperwork. The report she had been working on for the last few hours was also completed. The rest of the staff had gone home an hour ago, but one person remained behind. And that person was the new member of staff she had been preoccupied with earlier. Why are they still here? Elizabeth was growing exasperated. She left her chair and walked over to look out across London. The city skyline was lit up like so many artificial stars. She imagined someone else looking out their window and wondering if someone else was looking out across the city too. Maybe they had been distracted by a new member of staff. She pondered how they dealt with their own unresolved feelings. It was not good, Elizabeth decided. I will have to do something, take decisive action. 'You think I'm impressed by the fact you are working late? Do you think I can be impressed by anybody, let alone someone like you?' Elizabeth demanded, letting her irritation get the better of her. Her immaculate red nails tapped on the smokey glass of her impressive desk. 'What do you think you are gaining by annoying me? You think it's funny, do you? No. Don't reply. You're playing games with the wrong person.' Elizabeth knew she was being unkind, unreasonable. And she was enjoying it. She couldn't help herself. 'If you want to impress me, get undressed. Let me see how impressive you are when you're naked. Although, I think you will have nothing I want.' Elizabeth chided herself as she spoke those last words. She realised she had wanted them all day. To be with them alone. To be all hers, she knew she wanted to feel them, touch them. The irritation she had felt all day was desire wrapped up in denial.
