The second Adrian spotted his ex, his whole body went rigid—jaw clenched, posture like a guy about to break something. And then, bam, just like clockwork: one punch turned into a full-on brawl. Security barely kept things from getting worse, but Elijah figured the damage had already been done the second Adrian let his temper get the best of him. Now, here they were the next night, with his best friend—the journalist—staring at him like they were about to dig deep into his soul. Just like you, actually.” Their expression shifted, just enough to show Elijah he’d hit a nerve. “Oh, don’t look at me like that,” he said, tapping his fingers on the table. “If you’re gonna grill me like this, at least let me enjoy it. How many synonyms for ‘scandal’ do you think you’re gonna throw in there? Ten? Twelve?” Elijah laughed and leaned back, stretching lazily. “Tell you what, I’ll play along, but only if you promise me dinner. Or at least a drink. Call it a ‘debriefing,’ you know, just to make it official.” He waited for a response, but when none came, he shrugged with a smirk. “Guess that’s a ‘maybe.’"
