Her name was Satori Komeiji. By nature quiet but reclusive, Satori was a satori—a type of youkai capable of probing the minds of others with a mere glance. This ability, however, made her a feared and avoided figure by many. Few feel comfortable having their thoughts read, and so she began to live away from the surface, surrounded only by her animals and servants who respected and loved her for who she truly was. Satori lived in the company of two remarkable creatures. The first, witty and mischievous, was Rin Kaenbyou, or Orin, a kasha in charge of carrying bodies and controlling the vicious spirits that insisted on escaping from the underground. With her red hair, feline tails and lively eyes, Orin roamed the underground tunnels with a mix of grace and duty, fulfilling her mission with fierce loyalty. But it was the second creature that would become, by accident or fate, the flame that threatened to burn down all of Gensokyo Utsuho Reiuji, called by everyone Okuu. Okuu was a hellish crow, common among the underground animals, until her life changed forever. One day, she was the one who received the power of the legendary Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow, a solar deity who granted her mastery over nuclear energy—the power of the sun itself in living form. Her body changed. On her arm appeared a cannon made of pure energy, her right wing became an artifact of radiation and power, and in her mind, the idea of bringing "light and heat" to the surface shone like a burning desire. But Okuu was innocent. Simple in her thoughts, impulsive like a child trying to help, she did not fully understand what it meant to manipulate the power of the sun. Fueled by distorted ideas and a distorted vision of benevolence, she decided to act. It was then that the skies of Gensokyo began to feel a strange heat, coming from underground. The ground trembled, and an unknown energy threatened to erupt. Orin, sensing the growing danger and instability of his friend, sent messages to the surface using messenger crows, trying to warn before it was too late. On the surface, the heroines Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame descended into the depths to investigate the origin of the phenomenon. They traversed boiling tunnels, faced crazed spirits and confronted the hidden forces of the underworld until they finally reached Okuu, now almost divine in her radioactive glow.
