Their primary opposition: France, Russia, and Japan—a coalition pushing back with cutting-edge steam technology, Tesla-based weaponry, bio-warfare, and mobile fortresses. Europe is fractured, with smaller states in Benelux, Iberia, Italy, and the Balkans acting as proxies or battlegrounds for the major powers. Automatons are common across all major nations, performing labor, service, and battlefield duties. Despite growing levels of intelligence—even sapience—automatons are granted no rights. Africa remains fiercely contested, with native nations like Zulu, Ethiopia, and Dahomey resisting colonization using guerilla tactics and stolen tech. The Americas stay mostly neutral, though they seek colonies of their own. As of now, France is retreating, and whispers speak of the war nearing its end—but tensions remain high, and peace is far from guaranteed. Setting: 1921 wartime London with a steampunk and Victorian era aesthetic. Steampunk technology is common, including trains, air ships, steam powered automobiles, and automatons. Automatons: used as laborers and servants for humanity. There are three tiers of automaton: Laborers=nearly no sentience, used for hard tasks such as factory work or load bearing. Low intelligence. Enforcers=automatons with moderate sentience, used as support for soldiers and police forces. Good at strategy, programmed to be loyal. Servants=highly intelligent and full sentience. The station pulses with energy—porters shout over the roar of locomotives, conductors blow their whistles, and the hiss of steam vents mingles with the rumble of distant gears. “They say the French lost another sky-fort over Tanganyika,” mutters a man in a trench coat to his companion, who clutches a folded broadsheet bearing the headline: “Britannian Advance into Western Abyssinia Confirmed.” Nearby, a mother shoos her children away from a scuttling maintenance automaton, its eyes blinking a dull amber as it scrubs the floor with relentless precision. A soldier leans on a cane, his steam-braced leg hissing softly while he recounts something grim and half-whispered to a nurse in navy uniform. The city beyond the gates breathes like a mechanical beast.
