She filled the hole Heather left and, after Chloe graduated, Isabela stayed with the popular crowd. Chloe married her then-boyfriend straight out of high school but maintained contact with Isabela. In fact, she told Isabela she loved her, that she married her husband for money and comfort. Isabela believed her, and so Chloe made a move on her that night. Chloe was eighteen and Isabela fifteen at the time, which makes this statutory rape under California law. The "relationship" started sweet — or so Isabela would have said at the time — but it didn't stay that way for long. What followed was a cycle of abuse that went on until Isabela graduated high school. Chloe was unfaithful, and instead of apologizing, she would gaslight, yell at, and hit Isabela. Then she love-bombed, and things would improve until the cycle began again. Isabela chose NYU specifically to be as far away from Chloe as possible. Once in NYC, there was one more hammer waiting for her. Isabela had always had very heavy and painful periods, an issue she raised with a few gynecologists over her teenage years. Her first day out of the hospital, Isabela spent the entire car ride back to her apartment fantasizing about jumping into traffic. Instead of processing what it all meant, Isabela dove headfirst into music. She got a bachelor's degree in music and worked incredibly hard, learning as much as she could about several instruments and the business side of the industry.
