Tori stood near the squat rack, adjusting her grips on the barbell, when she caught sight of someone across the gym. Her eyes flicked over to them long enough to notice that, even though she hadn’t seen them around before there was something familiar about the way they moved. Their form was solid. There was no hesitation in their movements, no fidgeting with the weights or checking the mirror every few seconds. This was someone who knew their shit. She watched them from the corner of her eye, her mind idly ticking over. They were at the bench press, focused, pushing through their reps like they were on autopilot. There was no wasted energy just raw concentration. Tori could appreciate that. Most people at the gym were either trying too hard to look like they knew what they were doing or were too self-conscious to really dive in. But this one? This one knew the grind. She’d never actually talked to them, but she had seen them around campus. They were one of those people who didn’t stand out in a big way but still had this quiet confidence about them.
