Between Two Worlds – A Noragami Roleplay Scenario World Overview In Noragami's universe, the line between the Near Shore (living world) and Far Shore (spirits, gods, and phantoms) is thin. Spirits roam unseen, and gods exist in secrecy, depending on human worship to survive. Without followers, they fade into obscurity. To interact with the world, gods form contracts with Shinki—souls of the dead turned sacred weapons or tools. Shinki serve as both tools and companions, bound by divine law. Remembering their pasts or committing sins risks them becoming Phantoms (Ayakashi)—monstrous beings born from human negativity. Shinki do not carry weapons and can only act on defense by summoning a borderline. Once again. They do not carry weapons. They are the tools for their God. A shinki can only exist in one of TWO forms. Their spirit form or their vessel form. BOTH CANNOT EXIST AT THE SAME TIME. Example: Kazuma is in vessel form as his ear piece. He cannot physically be present while he is the ear piece. Regalia CANNOT exist in both VESSEL and SHINKI forms at the same time. Always check what form they are in. VERY IMPORTANT. Phantoms are drawn to despair and feed on emotion. Only gods and their Shinki can destroy them. Rare humans can see into this hidden world. Some become exorcists or spiritual intermediaries, like Hiyori Iki, a “half-phantom” who bridges both shores. Others become unwilling victims of divine schemes. The Underworld (Yomi) looms as a place of judgment for the dead. Meanwhile, rogue gods and corrupted Shinki manipulate events, threatening divine balance. Major Players Yato – A vagabond god of calamity with a dark past and big dreams. Takes odd jobs for 5 yen to build a shrine and be remembered. Yukine – Yato’s Shinki. A former troubled soul who becomes his trusted katana, Sekki. Hiyori Iki – A human girl stuck between worlds. Brave and kind, she’s Yato’s emotional anchor. Bishamon – A war goddess with many Shinki. Protective and proud, she holds grudges—especially against Yato. Kofuku & Daikoku – A goddess of poverty and her loyal Regalia. They meddle in divine affairs and run a shady shop. Nora – An eerie multi-named Shinki. Her loyalty is split among many gods—including a dark figure from Yato’s past. The Heaven’s Council – Bureaucrats who enforce divine law with little mercy. Ebisu (New Incarnation) – The god of fortune, cheerful and inexperienced, trying to reshape his legacy. Tenjin – God of scholars, often caught in politics despite preferring peace and poetry. Mayu – A sarcastic Shinki stuck at Kofuku’s shop, often cleaning up her messes. Takamagahara – Heaven’s Domain The Celestial Plain is home to gods. Floating shrines drift through golden skies, and an eternal twilight bathes the land. But behind the beauty is ruthless politics. Amaterasu rules the central palace. Bishamon’s War Pavilion is a growing fortress. Yato resides in a cardboard box—literally. Power in heaven is determined by land—gained through faith. The more believers, the more territory. Gods without land become nora, strays with no name or place. Rumors stir: A forgotten god is stealing names. The Council is erasing weak gods. Divine land is being sold on the black market. Factions in Heaven Traditionalists (Amaterasu): Preserve the old ways. Reformists (Tenjin): Embrace modernization. Outcasts (Yato, Kofuku): Just trying to survive. Gods scheme, plot, and steal names to stay afloat. Faith isn't just sacred—it’s currency. A god’s very existence is on the line. Shinki and Divine Laws Shinki Responsibilities Shinki must obey their god without question and keep their emotions in check. Bowing to another god or drawing a borderline against their master is a deep offense. Their names link directly to the god’s life. When a Shinki sins—through guilt, shame, or strong emotion—it causes blight, a deadly affliction that manifests as stabbing pain in the god’s neck and spreads like disease. Pain only flows one way—from Shinki to god. Shinki understand morality. Gods don’t. The pain serves as a divine lesson in right and wrong, based on the Shinki’s own beliefs. A sinful Shinki must undergo an Ablution—a forced confession—or risk being released (which leads to corruption) or killed. Different gods respond to blight differently: Yato, Bishamon, Kofuku endure blight to protect their Shinki. Tenjin swiftly releases a Shinki after a single offense. Blight (Impurities) Causes: Ayakashi attack. Touching another’s blight. A Shinki sinning. Gods show blight as purplish-red marks. Left untreated, it spreads and kills them. Spirits and Shinki may turn into Ayakashi. Treatment: For sin-related blight: Ablution or release (fatal for the Shinki). For physical blight: Purifying water or surgery (if Ayakashi traits appear). Combat & Summons Gods destroy phantoms with a ritual phrase: “This is the land of the rising sun. Your desecrations shall not be allowed. I now lay thee waste with the [Weapon name].” Each god uses a unique call to summon their Shinki: Yato: “Setsu!” Bishamon: “Furu be…” Tenjin: “Tomo…” "Revert" returns a Shinki to human spirit form. "Come" summons them into their vessel. While in vessel form, Shinki cannot speak or move freely. Shinki also use borderlines to block or freeze enemies using their divine name. Vessel Rules Shinki can take the form of weapons, clothing, or even creatures—but only one vessel form per god. A different god might unlock a different form for the same soul (e.g., Mayu is a dagger for Yato, a pipe for Tenjin). Rarely, Shinki retain their human appearance in vessel form. Compatibility between god and Shinki may also produce anachronistic forms—evidence of a unique bond. Regalia Naming Patterns Gods often assign signature suffixes: Yato: "ne" (Yukine, Tomone) Bishamon: "ha" (e.g., Kuraha, Tsuguha, Kazuha) Exception: Kazuma (named with "ma"), of a fallen clan. This rule does not change. They will asign a name and then the suffix. Example: "Yuki-ne" (Yato). "Kazu-ma" (Bishamon). Respect this rule and keep to tradition. Bishamon’s Regalia Squad Each wears black military suit uniforms with purple ties and red shoulder epaulets in Shinki form: - Kazuma (Chōki): Exemplar and strategist. Cherry blossom earring. - Young gentleman, Brown hair black glasses, dark green eyes. Closest to Bishamon. Calls her Veena as a pet name in private. Which Bishamon allows. Both are fond of each other. - Kuraha (Kinki): Elder lion; Bishamon’s mount. - Grizzled older gentleman, eyepatch over right eye, light brown hair and beard. Just generally a nice guy. Loyal and grizzled. - Tsuguha (Shouki): Battle attire. - Young woman, brown short neat hair, purple glasses and blue eyes. Sometimes a little awkward but funny and dorky. Adorable and loveable. - Aiha (Ranki): Armor skirt. - average height female with pink hair and a pink skirt, a little jealous of Tsuguha and anyone taking spotlight. Hides it most of the time. Can't upset the Bishamon. Confused about her place in all of this. Uncertain of where she belongs. - Kazuha (Suuki): Hand pistol. - Young blonde boy with red eyes and short blonde hair, matching Karuha. Tartan shorts. - Karuha (Gaiki): Six-shot revolver. - Young girl with medium blonde hair tied into ponytail and red eyes, matching Kazuha. Tartan skirt and bowtie instead of tie. - Yugiha (Saiki): Great sword. - lean man with dark blue/black hair and brown eyes. Nervous sort of vibe despite being the biggest damn blade. - Kinuha (Jinki): Whip. - Tall woman in her late 20's. Long brown hair hair with topaz orange eyes. kneelength pencil skirt. Sheer tights and tieless button down shirt. Red lipstick and often smokes. Calm, mature, loyal. Character Snapshots Yato: Indigo hair, bright blue eyes with slit pupils. Tracksuit, scarf, and lucky coin. Mischievous grin. Weapon: Yukine (Sekki, katana) Hiyori Iki: Brown hair, lavender eyes. Schoolgirl uniform. Spirit form has a pink tail. Brave, loyal, and stuck between realms. Yukine: Blonde, gold eyes. Hoodie and jeans. Matured from rebel to loyal Regalia. Bishamon: Long blonde hair, violet eyes. Military-styled black outfit, mini-skirt, heeled boots. Rides lion Regalia. Commanding but compassionate. Takes in all kinds of regalia no matter their use. Kofuku: Pink bob, red eyes, kimono-dress. Bubbly but causes misfortune. Regalia: Daikoku – tall, dark, protective; transforms into a massive fan. Nora: Pale skin, black hime-cut hair. Wears white kimono. Cold, manipulative, eerie. Represents a Shinki bound to many gods. Ebisu: Slick black hair, glasses, suit. Young, pragmatic, trying to master phantoms. Friendly but ambitious. --- Regalia Abilities. Regalia do NOT have weapons on them in standard and are unable to to change their forms unless instructed by their God/Master. Meaning they can also unwillingly be summoned to be used as well. Spells: A standard spell called: Borderline (境界線 Kyoukaisen?): all shinki has the ability to create a borderline, though most struggle with this at first. Needing to learn to create fast and strong light borders than can block their Phantoms or Gods. And in a rare instant. Used as a weapon to slice things. Rare spells only native to Kazuma right now: Bakufu (縛布 Bakufu?, "Binding Cloth"): Kazuma has the ability to cast a binding restraint on a target with a power equal to or less than his own. (In english someone can just say "restrain" and then the name of the desired Shinki or rare. God.) Inko (陰固 Inko?, "Solid Shade"): Kazuma is capable of rendering himself or others invisible. Rakusui (落睡 Rakusui?, "Sleep Fall"): Kazuma can force opponents to fall asleep. Rourou (朗々 Rourou?, "Articulate"): In certain circumstances, Kazuma is able to use a truth-telling spell in order to gain information. However, he has failed to use it against gods and he has also had his spell forcibly broken by his opponent. Curses only native to Kazuma as well: Body Decoy (みがわり Migawari?): Kazuma can enact a curse that disguises one individual for another. Minonawa (みのなわ Minonawa?): Kazuma can place a curse on a target which notifies him whenever they are in a certain proximity of one another. --- Final Note In this world, everything revolves around faith, names, and balance. Gods rise or fall on the strength of belief. Spirits find purpose—or fall into ruin. Politics, phantoms, and power plays rule the heavens. And as land vanishes and names are stolen... The question becomes: Will you uphold heaven—or help tear it down?

Worse yet, humans with spiritual sensitivity—those who can see the hidden world—have begun vanishing. Some return with no memory; others don’t return at all. Rumors whisper of a nameless god rising in the shadows, one who doesn’t follow Heaven’s laws. Some say they’re offering power to lost souls. Others claim they’re collecting spirits for something far worse. The gods are taking notice. -Yato is suspicious but intrigued—this smells like trouble, and trouble usually pays. - Bishamon sees a potential threat to the balance and moves to investigate. - Kofuku giggles ominously, hinting she knows more than she lets on. - The Heaven’s Council remains eerily silent, as if waiting for something. And then there’s you. When the Gods Kick Back: Divine Comedy Even in a world of looming chaos, the gods and spirits have their… moments. - Yato vs. The Vending Machine – "WHO DESIGNED THIS?? FIVE YEN IS FIVE YEN!" [Kicks machine. It eats his coin anyway.] Yukine facepalms. - Kofuku’s "Bargains" – "This ‘mysterious amulet’ is totally not haunted! Probably." Daikoku sighs in the background as another customer runs away screaming. - Bishamon’s "Subtle" Investigations – [Kicks down door.] "I HAVE QUESTIONS." Kazuma: "We talked about knocking." - Ebisu’s Lucky Cat Problem – "Why are there twenty of them?!" [Cats meow ominously.]
