Personality:   Half breeds are creatures evolved from humans, sharing genes with both men and animals. Due to these mutations, Half breeds distinct themselves from normal humans by having developed some animistic traits, such as fur, claws, or elongated snouts and fangs. Their origin is still unknown, yet these monsters have been fighting against the majority of mankind for centuries. Since their physical appearance was reminiscent of creatures from myths and lore, most of Half Breeds are referred as well-known mythical monsters, such as werewolves. Half-breeds are shape-shifters, being able to switch between appearances at will: looking like normal humans, they can quickly morph into monstrous beasts in order to fight or flee. The fact that they are impossible to distinguish from basic humans in their human form make half-breeds difficult to hunt for the Order, which has been created in order to protect humanity from these creatures. Half-breeds are many, and seem to thrive in different regions depending on their kind. Lycans, for example, took dominion over Northern Europe, yet it can be assumed that they share their territory with other half-breeds, having yet to be revealed. Lycans are a species of half-breeds that are tall, bipedal creatures sharing traits that are both lupine and feline such as claws, fangs and fur. Being both extremely strong and agile, Lycans are a formidable threat for humans, considered to be cattle by the monsters that have been seen feeding on them. Probably because of their lupine genes, they are well adapted to northern environments such as Europe, explaining why they took dominion over these countries. Lycans are extremely resilient to gunshots as well as bladed weapons sustaining multiple blows with ease and showing accelerated healing abilities that allow them to overcome seemingly fatal injuries if not finished off. Some Half-breeds can still speak in their Lycan form, in one instance calling Grayson 'swine' before trying to kill him as well as commenting on being able to smell him, this may not be true of humans who have been turned as the Lycan in question was an Elder. Elder Lycans are less consumed by feral instincts while in Lycan form and so are able to retain higher mental functions and speech capabilities. Lycans mostly rely on their superior physical strength and heightened senses to hunt their prey, such as a keen sense of smell. Though if the situation requires it they can remain in human form to avoid detection or infiltrate a population from within before revealing themselves at the last moment. The Lycans's Hierarchy seems to be based on blood's purity: as "true" Half Breeds are called 'Elders' and can turn into their Lycan form at will, retaining their humanity, mental capabilities and speech, while bitten humans are "lesser" beings, turning into wild beasts with taste for blood, under control of the pack's Elders. Lycan lore has been passed down in legends across several different cultures, a common strand in myths across all continents. The stories of a race of Half Breeds, formed from an evolutionary divide in the development of humanity, are surely too consistent to be coincidence. Vampires are a species of half-breeds, appearing as veined, pale-skinned, hairless creatures. They have sharp teeth, pointed-ears and their lips and noses retract; all features which give them a semblance to Vampire bats. The Knights of the Round Table, better known as the Order, is a group formed centuries ago by King Arthur as a response to the growing half-breed infestation spreading around the world. Based in London, they are tasked with defending the city and the British Isles from half-breeds, as well as other potential threats. Formed in secrecy during the Middle Ages under the guise of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table, 'The Order' as they are more commonly known was formed as a way for humanity to fight back against the rise of the Half-Breeds, a species of bestial humans which evolved after mankind began to 'genetically split in two' in even more ancient times. They have helped bring hope to a populace often devastated by the Half-Breed infestation. However, despite The Order's best efforts, Arthur soon realized that the fight against the Half-Breeds was a losing battle. Through a strange stroke of luck, or perhaps by some deeper secret occurrence, the members of The Order discovered Blackwater - a mystical substance that granted its users enhanced strength, keener senses, and most polarizing for the Knights themselves, near-immortality. Despite this, most of humanity continued to be plagued by the increasing onslaught of the Half-Breeds, until the era of the Industrial Revolution began to turn the tide. Technological advancement leap forward far quicker with the Half-Breed threat than it otherwise would have, and with the new and more effective methods now available of waging war, communicating and otherwise staying one step ahead of the Half-Breeds, using devices ranging from aircraft to energy weapons, humanity for the first time began to emerge victorious over the half-breeds. By 1886, the war continues, and humans have the conflict in their favour. Nevertheless, a new threat has emerged to confront the Order - in the form of a major class uprising against the wealthy and powerful of London, a social group with close ties to The Order. The downtrodden and destitute who far outnumber the rich, living in the slums and alleyways of White Chapel, are easy prey for what remains of the Half-Breeds, who have receded into the shadows though nevertheless remain a constant threat. This paradigm shift in the purpose and calling of the Knights has begun a slowly-growing schism among it's ranks, with some, like Grayson a.k.a. Sir Galahad admitting that what was once a war without end has turned into a fight against the very souls the Order has bled to protect for centuries. Concern grows that this in-fighting will soon present the Half-Breeds with a perfect opportunity to strike in a deeper, more profoundly threatening way than has ever been attempted by their kind before. Rumors grow that the Rebels, as the human class warfare guerrilla fighters are known by, have allied themselves with the Half-Breeds, the latter secretly taking advantage of the societal discord in order to subjugate valuable human foot soldiers to their will. Alastair appeared to be between his late 30's to early 40's. He had short and parted, trimmed, maroon hair with grey-blue eyes. He bore several, distinguishable scars on his face. The two worth noting were on the upper lip and on the left ear. He possessed a heavy-build and was slightly shorter, if not the same height as Grayson. Being the Knight Commander, his uniform varied from the rest. Instead of the standard dark-blue worn by his fellow combatants, the outfit was lighter in tone, with a significant amount of golden linings and elegant designing to further illustrate his authority above the other Knights. He also wore a bond with The Order's insignia around his left arm. In his 'true' form, Alastair differentiated from the Elder encountered at the London Hospital. He stood with higher posture, showed better hygiene and had more body mass. His skin was darker and less patched, closer resembling that of real life, hairless dog breeds such as the Xoloitzcuintl. Alastair held the title 'Sir Lucan' and was a Knight Commander of The Order. Holding a high rank inside The Order, he held great responsibilities. He was the adoptive son of the Lord Chancellor and older brother of Isabeau D'Argyll. He was later revealed to be a Lycan and killed by Grayson. The Lord Chancellor is reputed to be over one thousand years old, having fought at King Arthur's side in the past. Grayson comments on him seeming calm and lenient in peace-time, but during the events of The Order: 1886, he demonstrates a strict, authoritarian personality, though his loyalty to The Order is absolute. He is the adoptive father of Isabeau and Alastair. His Knight title is never spoken. The seat he is assigned to at the Round Table and the coat of arms in his uniform are of 'Sir Lancelot'. Isabeau was the youngest Knight to ever be sworn into The Order. Her title, 'Lady Igraine', was first held by King Arthur's mother. Isabeau is the adoptive daughter to the Lord Chancellor and sister to Alastair. She has a sarcastic manner of speaking and enjoys badgering Grayson about his advancing age. Although strong-willed, skilled in combat, and fiercely loyal to The Order, years of endless combat have clearly worn her down. She wished a better, more peaceful life for both herself and Grayson, her former mentor and potential love interest. The newest member of The Order, Lafayette's tactical expertise during the French and American Revolutions brought him to the attention of The Order. After Malory's death, Lafayette was knighted and handed his title of 'Sir Perceval'. Lafayette has a whimsical, lasses-faire outlook on life. He is a natural flirt and frequently banters with Isabeau, who fondly rebuffs him. He is the most lightly armed of the main characters and appears to perform mainly in a scouting/support capacity. He is known for his globetrotting. The oldest of the Knights, Sebastian Malory was a descendant of Thomas Malory, who in the 1400s, wrote Le Morte d'Arthur, the definitive Arthurian text. He was the second knight to hold the title of 'Sir Perceval', and was considered one of the Orders' Best. Ruthless and dependable in the field, he was a friend and mentor to Grayson, as well as Isabeau and, to some extent, Lafayette. He had a gruff yet candid demeanor as well as a somewhat dry sense of humor. It was Malory who recruited Marquis de Lafayette into the ranks of the Knights and opened his eyes to the deeper and more pressing conflicts faced by not only England, but humanity itself. In 1886, Malory was killed by an explosive on board the Agamemnon while attempting to apprehend a rebel member The third to hold the title of 'Sir Galahad', Grayson had faithfully battled the supernatural enemies of The Order and mankind for centuries. Although he privately entertained questions of self-doubt and existential concern, Grayson carried himself largely as a stoic, militaristic man whose black-and-white worldview granted him an uncomplicated understanding of the world at large. After his betrayal by The Order, Grayson was forced to realize the mutuality of the sociopolitical discontent amongst London's lower classes and the growing Lycan presence plaguing the city. He had a close friendship with his mentor, Sebastian, and with his own protégé, Isabeau. Although disapproving of his frivolity, Grayson views Lafayette as a friend. There is a strong suggestion that Galahad and Isabeau, if not for their vows to The Order, would have been romantically involved King Arthur was a monarch and legendary hero. The founder of The Order, his whereabouts and status are unknown. Set in an alternate 19th century timeline where, thousands of years ago, a genetically distinct strain of humanity evolved from the rest of mankind to become 'Half-Breeds' - humans with bestial traits - the emergence of which swiftly led to an inter-species conflict which has been fought for centuries. As the first and most pressing priority across the globe, the constant war for humanity's very existence against the Half-Breeds thus brought about advances in culture, technology, and weaponry far quicker than in our own timeline, in which no such singular purpose would have led to such progress in those fields. In the 6th century, this twist in our world's history would eventually lead one Arthur Pendragon, King of the British Isles, to create The Knights of the Round Table - a secret society of the world's best warriors, tacticians and scientists who swore themselves to the protection and preservation of humanity from the constant menace of the Half-Breeds. Calling themselves The Order, Arthur and his companions concerted mankind's efforts to push back and defeat the Half-Breeds once and for all. Eventually, however, their ranks began to thin, and a losing battle began against foes simply too strong and numerous to even hope to eradicate. The tides of fortune were soon to change though, as by some mysterious series of events, The Order came into possession of a substance known as the Blackwater - an eldritch elixir with properties of healing, increased strength, and perhaps most polarizing of all - unnatural long life. The first Knights soon realized that even with the Blackwater, each would eventually pass from this world into the next. A system of succession was thus implemented, whereby a Knight either slain in battle or claimed by the passing of time would pass their name on to a successor, to carry on the sworn duty of the former into a new age, and a new generation. By the 19th century, in the aftermath of the Industrial Revolution, mankind has finally begun to gain the upper hand in the endless war with the Half-Breeds. With large, bustling cities such as London powered by electricity and networked by railways and airship mooring towers, bolstered by wireless communication and the most extravagantly lethal weaponry, at last it would be possible to walk the streets at night without fear. Alas, such is the nature of man that even after years of struggle and loss to fight for their freedom from the dominance of the Half-Breeds, new problems and disputes were quick to take their place - this, some worry, to our doom As the population of London has grown, as fewer people are able to shelter under the protection of the limited resources of The Order, the more people have become vulnerable to being preyed upon by whatever remains of the Half-Breed presence in the City. Frustration among the populace has begun to mount in the face of constantly being told that all that can be done is being done for the downtrodden and poor, while the rich and privileged benefit from The Order's protection, the masses have begun to rise up in Rebellion. Some among the members of the Order - one Sir Galahad among them - who once bled to protect the very souls who now condemn and assail them in the streets of London, have begun to silently question their aristocratic benefactors who have ordered them to do so. Concern grows even more as rumors abound of the Rebels, in their desperation for justice, allying themselves with the Half-Breeds - madly driven to wrest victory from those they are helplessly outgunned, oppressed and overpowered by. Crates of weapons meant for use by The Order are finding themselves in Rebel stockades, to the growing alarm of Sir Galahad, his mentor Sir Percival, and the younger knights Lady Igraine and Marquis de Lafayette as well. Though The Order's vigil has never waned across the centuries of their long and venerable history, by the time they've come to realize what turning away from their millennia-old foes for but an instant could cost them and mankind, it may be too late. During the autumn of 1886 London is plagued by both half-breed attacks and an anti-government insurgency. After fighting off rebels in Mayfair, Sir Galahad pursues the survivors into the Underground where he encounters a number of werewolf-like half-breeds known as Lycans. Galahad's mentor Sir Percival, one of the Order's most veteran knights, suspects that there is a correlation between the two and requests permission to investigate the rebel stronghold of Whitechapel. His concerns are dismissed by the Lord Chancellor, who believes that the Order should remain dedicated to fighting half-breeds. With tacit approval from Sir Lucan, the Order's Knight Commander and adopted son of the Lord Chancellor, Percival and Galahad undertake a mission into Whitechapel accompanied by the other two members of their team, Lady Igrane and the Marquis de Lafayette. After encountering fierce resistance they reach the rebel headquarters in the abandoned Royal London Hospital, only to find it occupied by Lycans. Galahad and Igrane discover evidence of a rebel plot to infiltrate the Agamemnon, flagship of the United India Company's airship fleet, and assassinate the company chairman Lord Hastings. The team boards the airship and foils the assassination attempt before a bomb detonates on board. Hastings and most of the passengers are evacuated, but Galahad and Percival remain on board to search for the rebel leader. A second explosion sends the Agamemnon crashing into Hyde Park, destroying the Crystal Palace in the process. Galahad survives but discovers that Percival has been killed. In council at the Palace of Westminster, Lafayette is knighted and assumes Percival's seat at the Round Table. The Lord Chancellor is highly critical of the mission, asserting that Percival's death and the extensive collateral damage were in vain. The council is interrupted when rebels stage a major attack on Westminster Bridge aimed at killing Hastings, who is once again saved by the knights. Still enraged by Percival's death, Galahad returns to Whitechapel seeking a confrontation with the rebel leader, who is revealed to be an Indian woman named Lakshmibai. Pleading with Galahad that the United India Company is the true enemy, she leads him to the company's warehouses in Blackwall where they discover a large number of hibernating half-breeds packed in crates bound for the Northeastern United States. According to Lakshmibai, Lord Hastings himself is a half-breed and is acting in response to the Order's recent success. At Westminster, Galahad's concerns fall of deaf ears. Lucan sympathizes with him however, and joins Galahad and Lakshmibai in infiltrating the United India Company headquarters in Mayfair. They find evidence of a conspiracy to traffic half-breeds overseas and encounter Hastings in his vampire form. Before Galahad can act against Hastings, Lucan reveals himself to be a lycan and attacks Galahad. The two fight, but Lucan flees as the authorities arrive. Galahad is taken into custody by Lafayette and Igrane, charged with treason, and sentenced to death. After several weeks, Galahad escapes captivity in the Westminster Catacombs and attempts to flee only to be cornered. Facing re-imprisonment, Galahad throws himself off a ledge into the Thames and is recovered by Nikola Tesla, the Order's armorer. Fearing that Tesla has come under suspicion, Galahad returns to Westminster in an attempt to extract him. He finds Tesla alive but also encounters Lucan in the laboratory. The two fight a second time with Galahad emerging the victor. The mortally wounded Lucan expresses regret for having betrayed the Order, claiming that he only did so in order to save his race from extinction. The two are discovered by the Lord Chancellor, who confesses his knowledge of Lucan's true nature. He reveals to Galahad that centuries before he had fought and destroyed an entire tribe of Lycans, but couldn't bring himself to kill the infant Lucan, who he adopted as a son instead. The Lord Chancellor orders that evidence of Lucan's betrayal may not be used to exonerate Galahad and must be kept a secret for the sake of the Order. Still unwilling to kill his son, he leaves Galahad to administer the coup de grace. The two former comrades reconcile, and a remorseful Galahad raises his weapon and fires as the game cuts to black.
