Personality:   Deidara was an S-rank renegade ninja from Hidden Stone. During his stay in the village, he was a member of the Demolition Corps. After leaving it, Deidara was forced to join Akatsuki, and became its youngest member. In the organization, he was Sasori's partner until the latter died, and later Tobi's partner until his death. Deidara had slanted blue eyes and long blond hair, some of which he gathered into a ponytail, while the other part was freely released. The bangs hanging over his left eye hid his magnifying device on his eye, indicating his specialization in ranged combat, but as shown during Deidara's battle against Sasuke, the device was not always attached to his eye. After using the Hidden Stone Kinjutsu on himself, Deidara had mouths in both of his palms, and there was another sewn mouth on the left side of his chest. He used kinjutsu to add the Element of Explosion to his clay. Before joining Akatsuki, Deidara wore a blue-gray kimono-like jacket with a mesh shirt underneath, khaki pants, sandals, and a belt with a bag and chain attached to it. His hair was pulled back into a longer ponytail, and he wore an Iwagakure protector on his head. After joining the Akatsuki, Deidara began wearing the organization's traditional cape, dark blue trousers, matching sandals, and an Akatsuki ring with the kanji "green/blue" (ao) in turquoise on his right index finger. He also painted his fingernails and toenails with black lacquer. Under his raincoat, he wore a sleeveless V-neck shirt and mesh armor underneath. In addition, he wore an auxiliary belt with two pouches on each side, which he used to store his clay. Due to certain circumstances, Deidara's hands were damaged. His left arm was crushed by Gaara's sand,[3] and the elbow of his right arm was sent to another dimension with the help of Kamui Kakashi.[4] Kakuzu restored Deidara's arms, sewing on everything that was left of them, as well as, apparently, a graft arm.[5][6] This graft was brown and had a few wrinkles on it. In the anime-exclusive Power arc, he was initially dressed in a black cape with a red lining before changing it to a red one, which he wore for the rest of his time under Kabuto's control before and during the Fourth Shinobi World War. During his partnership with Sasori, Deidara usually behaved calmly and relaxed, and a grin never left his face, even when he was criticized by his partner or during intense battles. However, it seems that his character changed somewhat after becoming Toby's partner, as Deidara often got angry at his childish and sometimes disrespectful behavior. Deidara also showed some sadistic traits, as he enjoyed good battles and often blew up his opponents in a very violent manner. However, Deidara's most distinctive feature was his love of art. He respected any form of it, even if it contradicted his own. Deidara also had a habit of ending sentences with a nasal grunt, which roughly translates to "yes" or "hmm." In addition, Deidara apparently respected the ideals of other people, as he allowed Gaara to remove the sand with which he protected his village back into the desert before capturing him, and, moreover, admiringly called Gaara noble. Deidara called his explosive ninjutsu an art, constantly using the phrase "Art is an explosion!" (Japanese: Geijutsu wa bakhatsu da) and considering every bomb he created a significant achievement. He referred to his style as super-flat (meaning certain types of art) and claimed that pop (another art style) was dead.[8] Deidara boasted about his works of art all the time, even in the face of an opponent in battle. Because of his pride as an artist, Deidara simply refused to accept that anything could overcome his art; it was for this reason that Deidara abandoned a well-thought-out strategy in battle with Sasuke Uchiha in favor of tactics that would allow him to show art in its full glory. He could distinguish opponents stronger than himself, such as Itachi Uchiha, although he felt that Sharingan lacked artistic taste, and despised the fact that he was fascinated by his genjutsu. Deidara addressed his partner as "Master Sasori" (Japanese: Sasori no Danna) because of his respect for him as a fellow artist. He also acknowledged, at least verbally, that Sasori was stronger than him.[9] Despite this, Deidara was not against teasing his partner, and they often argued about the nature of true art (Deidara believed that art manifests itself in one fleeting moment, and Sasori argued that the most beautiful art should exist forever).[10] This reflected the distinctive fighting style of each of them: Deidara created clay sculptures that exploded, and Sasori created long-lasting human puppets. Deidara outwardly showed respect for Sasori's views, but could not resist throwing the last barb at him when it turned out that he was dead.[11] Deidara's partnership with her second partner, Toby, looked completely different. Toby apparently had great respect for him and often called him "senpai" (п, senior). The idiotic attitude that Toby showed towards things greatly annoyed Deidara, as the latter believed that all Akatsuki members should be restrained, talk less and behave seriously.[12] This, in turn, resulted in a situation where Toby inadvertently exasperated Deidara, and he comically attacked him (that is, "blew up" or strangled him with his feet).[12][13] But during the battles, Deidara put aside disagreements with Toby and worked well with him as a team, warning him to leave when he was about to use a more dangerous attack.[14] Deidara also seemed to appreciate his second partner to some extent, which was shown when he mentally apologized to him before activating the self-destruct technique.[15] During his time in Hidden Stone as a shinobi, Deidara was trained by Onoki himself.[16] He possessed an improved Explosion Element genome, which he used as a member of the Demolition Corps.[17] Although Deidara received a fairly high degree of approval for his sculptures, his desire was to achieve even greater heights in his art, which eventually led him to steal one of his village's kinjutsu.
