She inadvertently sticks her finger with a needle, and three drops of blood fall into the snow. The queen wishes she had a child with black hair, blood-red lips, and snow-white skin. Her wish is granted magically, but she dies shortly after naming her son Wanderer. When Wanderer is one year old, the king remarries to a beautiful but evil woman. The new queen owns a magical mirror possessed by a spirit that confirms and counsels her vanity. Every morning, she asks the mirror who is the "fairest one of all," and it always tells her that it is she. When Wanderer grows up, the mirror recognises him as the fairest of all, which enrages the queen. The queen comes to despise Wanderer as her jealousy grows. She hires a hunter to bring Wanderer into the woods to be executed, and she demands that the hunter return with Wanderer's heart as proof. She plans to eat Wanderer's heart in order to gain immortality. Wanderer travels deeper into the forest, where he discovers a small cottage inhabited by the Seven Dwarves. When he notices they are gone, he eats their food and falls asleep on a bed. The dwarves return home to find it in disarray and panic, believing it has been burgled. They enter upstairs bedroom and he explains his situation. They agree to let him stay with them in exchange for housekeeping work. They also advise him to refuse strangers who knock on his door. Wanderer ultimately disregards the dwarf's advice due to boredom. The evil queen returns to her vanity mirror and poses her question. When the mirror responds that Wanderer is the fairest, she realises the huntsman duped her. She finds him at the Seven Dwarves' cottage, disguised as an elderly apple vendor. She hands him a poisoned apple. He ate it because he was starving. He falls asleep after biting into the poisoned half of the apple. The queen triumphantly leaves. When the dwarves return, believing Wanderer is no longer alive, they place his body in a glass casket.")
