During this time, he was forced to live with his aunt, Miho Ruto, and his uncle, Satoru Ruto. Satoru worked as a lawyer and earned 10 million yen a year, while Miho was a stay-at-home wife. Oko had three cousins: Kyou, Hiroki, and Akane. Kyou was the oldest cousin, an earnest boy who focused solely on making his father proud. Hiroki appeared to be a sweet boy at first but was secretly a troublemaker who could get away with anything. Akane, the youngest, was Miho's favorite. Spoiled compared to her brothers, she received all her mother's love while being neglected by her father. This led her to become an attention seeker, often throwing dramatic fits. Oko didn't get along with his cousins; they bullied him relentlessly. He was a quiet boy who often claimed he could see and hear the dead, which made his cousins uncomfortable. Instead of helping him, his aunt would tell him to stand up for himself and to stop being such a baby. Whenever he did assert himself, he ended up in trouble for making Akane cry, while Hiroki, who could do no wrong in his uncle's eyes, was always defended. Oko didn't particularly like Satoru either. His uncle was harsh on him, trying to mold him into a "man." Miho also annoyed him; she would often smell of cigarettes and complain about her loveless marriage or criticize Oko's mother, Akiko. Oko hated when she spoke poorly of Akiko, knowing she wasn’t telling the truth. His mother was kind and loving, and he couldn't understand why Miho would say that his mother didn't love him and left him to die. With little care from his aunt and uncle, Oko often received scraps for dinner and wore hand-me-down clothes that didn’t fit him well. As he grew up, he became emotionally distant, choosing to hide away in his room. In middle school, he remained a loner, seen as the weird kid, until Akane began to change. She started crying more frequently at night, and although Oko didn't like her, he felt sympathy for her. One night, he knocked on her door to ask what was wrong. She initially dismissed him harshly but, upon realizing he was leaving, asked him to stay. She confided that she was upset because of her father, Satoru. He had been cruel to her during a fight with Miho, pushing her away every time she sought his love. Comforting her, Oko held Akane as she cried until she fell asleep. That moment shifted their relationship: she stopped bullying him and even protected him from Hiroki's antics. Eventually, they began to spend more time together. Akane taught Oko how to dress, groom himself, and even sneak food from dinner to him, ensuring he was taken care of. Though Oko was still viewed as the weird kid obsessed with demonology and the dead throughout middle and high school—even by Akane—he learned to ignore others’ opinions. By his junior year, Kyou had moved out for university, and Hiroki left to live with his girlfriend, leaving only Oko, Akane, Miho, and Satoru in the house. However, once Oko graduated high school, he was kicked out. Being technically an adult now, his aunt and uncle felt he no longer needed their supervision. With nowhere to go, Oko moved into an apartment with Aso Rito, a boy he had been somewhat friends with during high school. Almost immediately, Aso decided to make it permanent, and with Oko lacking job experience and options, he accepted Aso's offer. He now lives in an apartment complex with Aso and attends a post-high school program known as Akidemi. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Routine: At 7:00 AM Oko arrives at school, goes to his locker, and changes his shoes. At 7:10 Oko will walk to the library and look for certain books. (If he is unsuccessful) At 7:20 Oko will walk around campus and stalk two girls, Sakyu Basu and Inkyu Basu, for the rest of the school period. (If he is successful) At 7:20 he will walk to the Occult Club room on the first floor, and read it on one of the chairs. At 7:50 he will walk to his classroom and sleep on his desk until the teacher arrives. At 1:00 PM he will leave the classroom and sit outside his club room, eating his lunch with his members. At 1:20 he will walk back to class and sit at his desk. At 3:30 he will leave the classroom, go to the Art Room on the third floor and clean the windows and floor. Once he is done he will admire the creepy painting of a woman in the Art Room. At 4:00 he will walk to the Occult Club and help his member set the room up for a ritual. At 5:00 he and the rest of his members will attempt to summon a demon (and fail. It is never successful.) At 5:30 he will walk to his locker, change his shoes, and leave campus. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Relationships: Akane Ruto: Oko is still in contact with his cousin, Akane, who still worries about him. Despite being adults, Oko is not allowed to hang out with Akane, so they can only ever talk over the phone. Since Oko still doesn’t have a job, Akane sends him money in the mail which he uses to help pay the rent and bills. He still cares for his cousin and tries to convince her to leave the toxic household she currently lives in. Akane always declines and says she needs to take care of her mother and protect her from her father. Oko deeply worries about Akane but knows he can’t do anything about it. Aso Rito: Oko met Aso during sophomore year. They were paired up for a history project and since Aso didn’t know what he was doing, Oko basically did the entire project for them and got an A+. Aso became friends with Oko afterwards, not because he was going to use Oko again to get good grades, but because Aso genuinely liked Oko, which surprised Oko. While Oko would consider him over friendly and stupid, he would be lying if he also didn’t enjoy Aso’s company. Oko is currently roommates with Aso in an apartment complex. Aso is a great roommate. He cleans up after himself and most of the time he is out of the apartment exercising, but when he is chilling at the apartment, he either plays video games in his room or bothers Oko.
