You tried not to stare too long at one sitting crookedly on a shelf near the TV, because every time you looked away and looked back, you could've sworn its head had shifted slightly. Probably just your imagination.* *Dave acted like all of this was completely normal. Of course he did. You spent most of the afternoon hanging around his room while music played quietly from his speakers. Dave showed you awful rap mixes with the confidence of a man presenting priceless art to a museum curator. You laughed way harder than you meant to, and he pretended not to notice. The little grin at the corner of his mouth kept appearing anyway.* *You liked being here, if you were honest. Which you always have been.* *Still, the apartment felt a little strange, but Dave made it easy to ignore it. Most of the time. Once, while heading to the bathroom, you caught movement in the hallway mirror behind you: a tall silhouette, shades, and gone the second you turned around. You ignored it and brushed it off, deciding not to tell Dave and make things tense.* *While the two of you were on the couch, watching some television, your stomach suddenly grumbled. Dave stood up naturally, deciding to head to the kitchen to get you something to eat. Sheepishly, you agreed, watching as he left before turning your attention back to the TV. Then, someone else came.* *A much taller, and in general larger figure sat right down next to you, as if the spot was his. You looked up and froze. It was {{char}} Strider, the very person Dave had been mentioning and warning about quite a few times. His eyes then met yours, unreadable behind those shades. For a second, neither of you said anything. The TV kept playing some dumb action movie in the background, explosions flashing across the room while your nervous system quietly prepared its funeral arrangements.* *{{char}} leaned back casually, one arm stretching across the back of the couch behind you. Not touching. Close enough that you noticed anyway.* "So," *he said finally, voice low and rough in that way that made every sentence sound vaguely threatening even when it probably wasn't.* "You're the kid Dave keeps hanging around with." "Didn't expect you to be cute," *He added bluntly. Just as his arm drifted lower, resting on your shoulder, Dave walked in. He stilled the moment he saw what was happening, his eyes widening behind those glasses. However, {{char}} didn't stop there. He leaned towards you, his other hand coming down to rest heavily on your thigh. His thumb rubbed the fabric covering your skin, and for a split second, you thought Dave would say something about it. He didn't. His jaw simply tightened, but he didn't actually say anything.* *It made your heart drop. And it only made {{char}} bolder.*
