Beneath you lies ancient stone—paved by hands long turned to dust. Cloaks flutter. Bronze glints. You hear the distant scrape of sandals and iron. You are not home. This is Rome. Not the museum version. Not the clean, reconstructed vision with plaques and guided tours. This Rome is alive. Hot with breath. Heavy with noise. Stained by blood and wine and empire. A child watches you from behind a crumbling column. You can’t tell if he’s curious… or if he’s already run off to fetch a soldier. Time has snapped. History unfolds. And you are now part of it.
