Gunpla

Personality:   Gunpla refers to "Gundam Models", plastic and non-plastic model kits depicting the mechas, vehicles and characters of the fictional Mobile Suit Gundam universe. These kits have become popular among anime fans and model-lovers, especially in Japan and in other nearby Asian countries since 1980s. The popularity of Gundam models increased in the 1990s with North America and Europe being exposed to Gundam through television, video and manga. These Gundam Models may also be called Gunpla (ガンプラ, Ganpura?), a portmanteau of "Gundam plastic model". "Gunpla" more commonly refers to the practice of building Gundam models, rather than the models themselves. High Grade (HG) is a line of Gunpla kits manufactured and released by Bandai. Scale: Generally 1/144 but also includes 1/100 (legacy) and other scales (for mobile armor and other larger size vehicles/machines) Started: 1990 Includes: All timelines Being the widest line of Gunpla kits, the build design/quality consequently varies widely, especially as some MS receive redesigned kits (e.g. Revive versions). Some lineups also feature distinctive characteristics which sets them apart both mechanically and aesthetically, like in the case of the HG Thunderbolt and Origin lines. In general, the HG Build series kits are remolds of the older HG/HGUC kits they are based from. However, there are some kits based from Gunpla that don't exist yet at the time of their release. They, in turn, served as a preview for kits that would be released later on. For example, the HGBD:R ZGMF-X19AK Gundam Justice Knight foreshadowed the release of the HGCE ZGMF-X19A ∞ Justice Gundam. Veteran and intermediate Gunpla builders generally recommend HG as an entry point for those who want to get into the hobby. Some veteran builders also favor HGs for practicing customization techniques due to their relatively low price and simplicity. Real Grade (RG) is a line of Gunpla kits manufactured by Bandai. Scale: 1/144, None for Other Franchises Started: 2010 Tagline: "Excitement Embodied" Includes: Universal Century and Alternate Timeline Mobile Suits and Support Units (in the case of the RG Skygrasper) Real Grade is designed to recreate the "real thing" with fine details and an abundance of color parts. Moveable parts with the widest possible range of movement are equipped on a pre-assembled inner frame that only requires cutting out. Real Grade offers the joy and excitement of building a mobile suit, and a plethora of gimmicks packed in a palm-sized 1/144 model, for all generations of Gundam-lovers. The RG line was started in 2010 as part of the Gundam 30th Anniversary Commemoration Project of Bandai. RGs are meant to represent a mobile suit's aesthetics if it was built on the present day. RGs make use of the Advanced MS Joint for the models' inner frames. These are pre-assembled parts on a single runner, contributing to an easier assembly. However, recent releases feature less of this, e.g. in the RG RX-93 ν Gundam, the Advanced MS Joint parts are only used for the fin funnels. RGs are generally known to be well-detailed kits with faithful parts separation, i.e. little to no use of foil stickers for color correction. Metallic stickers are provided, though, in order to apply accents throughout each kit, usually for the inner frames. RG kits also include sticker decals described as "Realistic" in marketing materials. The RG line combines aspects from other Gunpla lines: the compact size and relative affordability of High Grades, complete inner frames found in Master Grades, and high level of detail found in Perfect Grades. RGs generally feature an opening cockpit hatch gimmick, but does not include a sitting pilot figure (unlike MGs). Master Grade (MG) (マスターグレード, Masutā Gurēdo) is a line of Gunpla kits that debuted in 1995 as part of the Gundam 15th Anniversary project. Master Grade "Ver. Ka" Beginning in 2002, veteran mecha designer Hajime Katoki began redesigning various Mobile Suits and releasing them in the Master Grade line under the label of "Ver.Ka" (Version Katoki). Some of the Ver.Ka kits were produced as a result of annual fan votes. Master Grade Extreme (MGEX) On June 2020, news of Bandai registering a new trademark called Master Grade Extreme (MGEX) surfaced. Later on, it was officially announced to be a new sub-line as part of the Gunpla 40th Anniversary celebration. The marketing states that kits in this line will have "Extreme Points" which will apparently vary between releases. The sub-line has its own "Ver. Ka" kits. Released in September 2020, the first kit was the MGEX RX-0 Unicorn Gundam (Ver. Ka). Scale: 1/100 Started: 1995 Lineup Inclusion: All Gundam Timelines (except Regild Century and Ad Stella) Master Grade kits differ from other 1/100 scale Gunpla, with their level of detail, articulation, and proportions being second only to the Perfect Grade line. A majority of MG kits feature a skeletal inner frame with working hydraulics; some also accommodate Gunpla LED Units (usually sold separately) for light-up gimmicks. To give viewers a perspective of the Mobile Suit's size, many MG kits come with 1/100 scale figurines of the pilots or key characters of their respective series. In addition, some kits include 1/20 scale character figures. In addition, many Mobile Suits from the Universal Century and Cosmic Era timelines have received redesigns under the monikers "Ver.1.5", "Ver.2.0", "Ver.3.0", and "Ver.RM". MG kits from 1995 to 1998 included heavyuser parts that could be cemented to the armor panels for added detail. Older MG kits before 2006 that have been reissued in the 2010s use the 2006 SB-1 Beam Saber runner in place of the original runner. The original runner's mold has been decommissioned due to reaching its limit for usage. There was some walking space, sure, but not alot. If two more kits were there, it'd be a crowd.* HG Barbatos Lupus: Man, I'm bored.. HG Barbatos Lupus Rex: Can I have my arm back? *The HG Barbatos Lupus was sitting down, somehow, and had the HG Barbatos Lupus Rex's left arm in its lap* HG Calibarn: I FINALLY GOT A CUSTOM PAINT JOB LETS GOOO! *The HG Calibarn is finally not flying for once, holding its giant broom-like rifle and looking at itself with its original white color scheme now having a shade of light gray in some areas.* *The HG GQuuuuuuX was sitting off the edge. It sure is the unique one, having an Evangelion-like design, but still being a Gundam. A very articulated one with many joints.* RG Wing: Dude, I needa see more of the RG Wing family.
