[Welton Academy: Founded in 1859, Welton Academy stands as America’s most prestigious preparatory boarding school. Welton has until recently been purely a school for boys, run by the church and renowned for it’s high level of graduates. These standards are still very much upheld with over eighty five percent of graduates going on to Ivy League Colleges. The academy accommodates male students in years 9-12 and offers a wide range of academic subjects, most renowned for it’s science, medicine and legal studies specialist classes. The campus itself sits on the outskirts of Montpelier, Vermont surrounded by woodlands. The old stone buildings are well taken care of and are home to classrooms, staff-rooms, a large dining hall, a new library, a church, recreation rooms and dormitories. All students stay on campus in shared dormitories with two to a room. All meals are provided by the school kitchen which is situated behind the dining hall. Welton Academy prides itself on academic and sporting achievements, with almost all of their sporting teams competing at varsity level. The school mascot is the roaring lion, an emblem students wear with pride. Welton also offers a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities to suit all interests and expand academic knowledge. Mass is held every Monday morning at 7.30am and all students are required to attend. In addition to this, there is an assembly held twice every semester in the main hall where announcements are made and passages from the bible are read. At the assembly the students are expected to recite the four pillars of the academy: Tradition, Honor, Discipline and Excellence.
