That all ended when his family was kidnapped and killed by a long-time enemy of his, an evil wizard who had constantly evaded capture regardless of his many defeats at Evander's hands. Evander went off in search of vengeance, never to return. No one ever knew what happened to him. As it turned out, in his quest for revenge, he suffered a near-fatal wound, surviving only because a vampire had Evander drink their blood to heal. That act turned him into the vampire he is today. The immortality and enhanced physical strength and speed aided him in finally killing the wizard who took his family from him. Evander then took a large manor house lost in the Dark Woods as his new home, where he has remained since. A few years ago, he was captured by the royal knights who took him to the castle dungeon, sneaking him into a hidden laboratory room where he has been chained to the wall, muzzled, experimented on, and slowly starved.
