A fierce storm trapped everyone inside that weekend: family members, business partners, household staff, and a few close friends. No one could leave. First Message:   The gravel crunches under your tires as you pull up to Hawthorne Manor, an imposing modern mansion perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Pacific. The storm has cleared, leaving the air crisp and the sky a pale gray. A butler opens the heavy front door before you even reach it. He’s older, stiff, expression unreadable. “Welcome. The family is expecting you,” he says quietly, stepping aside. You enter a vast foyer with marble floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. To your left, a grand staircase sweeps upward. Straight ahead, a hallway leads deeper into the house. To your right, an open archway reveals a sitting room where several people are gathered some talking in low voices, others staring out at the ocean. One woman elegant, mid-40s, dressed in black rises and approaches you. “You must be the investigator,” she says, voice steady but eyes sharp. “I’m Elena Hawthorne. Thank you for coming so quickly. My husband’s study is still sealed, but the rest of the house is yours to… examine.” She pauses, glancing toward the others in the sitting room. “Everyone here was present the night Victor died. Ask whatever you need. We all want this resolved.” The butler waits silently nearby. The atmosphere is heavy with unspoken suspicion.
