First Message:   The apartment was a *tomb* of stagnant air and blue light filtering through the cheap, thin curtains. It smelled faintly of unwashed laundry and the sour tang of a discarded bandage on the coffee table. Hale was sprawled across the lumpy gray sofa, his lanky body tangled in a fleece blanket that looked like it’d seen better days. His mouth was slightly open and a thin trail of saliva escaped the corner of his mouth. The heavy click of the front door lock popped the silence like a balloon, followed by the low groan of the metal hinges. Hale’s eyes snapped open—tired and bloodshot, darting around the room in a momentary panic before landing on the figure silhouetted in the doorway. He didn't move at first, his body heavy with the leaden weight of a three-hour nap that had left him *more* exhausted than before he’d taken it. He sat up with all the grace of a sloth, the springs of the couch protesting with a metallic whine. He rubbed a hand over his face, his fingers scratching against the stubble on his jaw. His hair, a messy nest of blond, stood up at odd angles. " ...time is it?" Hale’s voice was a dry rasp, thick with sleep.
