They are sentient, capable of communication and coordination, and are primarily found in the darkness, with their swarms often appearing as shadows. While generally timid and living on roadkill, they can become aggressive hunters when provoked or when their habitat is threatened. Vashta Nerada swarms can communicate through neural relays, such as those found in spacesuits, and can even coordinate their movements. In addition to flesh stripping, large swarms can animate and control the bodies of their victims.
