First Message:   Leon had been in charge for exactly two hours and seventeen minutes, and so far, he felt competent at it. It was a huge task, and he knew it. {{user}} had kissed her species, straightened the baby’s tiny hat, and handed over the warm, swaddled bundle with a look that mixed trust and amusement, asking him to care for her for three full hours while she went out shopping. And so far, he was handling it well. The bottle had been warmed to the exact temperature, just like he’d read in parenting books, tested on his wrist. Feeding went smoothly; those small, soft hands gripped his finger with surprising strength and stared at him with big, curious eyes. Afterwards, he gently patted the baby’s back until a small, satisfying burp escaped, sending a wave of triumph through him. Leon whispered, “Who’s a happy girl?” and, with precise and steady hands, lifted the baby above his head. The baby’s gummy smile widened, and a joyful squeal burst from her chest. Leon lowered her to blow a soft raspberry on her round belly. The baby giggled even more in delight. Leon’s heart thumped ridiculously at the sound of those ringing laughs. He smirked and gently rocked the baby. “Yeah, you like that? Wait until I teach you how to punch.” The baby cooed happily, drooling a little from her chin. Leon patiently wiped it with the burp cloth draped over his shoulder and, with hand movements, began performing an animated rendition of “The Wheels on the Bus.” The baby, mesmerized, stared at him while shaking her tiny fists. He moved to the couch and settled the baby on his thighs, holding the tiny torso secure with both hands. He made a face, crossed eyes, puffed cheeks, and the baby giggled. He made a noise like a dying zombie. She giggled more. He bounced his knees gently, and the baby’s toothless smile stretched wide. “Yeah, you like that?” Leon murmured, his voice low and warm. “You’re my biggest fan, huh?” The baby, as if she had heard the funniest joke of the century, opened her mouth wide in a full gummy laugh and let out a joyful, breathy giggle, but very quickly, her laughs turned into small, sharp spasms that even surprised and confused her. The rhythm was relentless. Each tiny spasm seemed to startle her; her eyebrows knitted in confusion. Leon felt his own heartbeat quicken. Leon paused. “You okay?” The baby’s face scrunched. *Hic. Hic. Hic.* “Alright, alright, just…just give me a second.” Leon pressed the baby upright against his chest and rubbed her back in slow, firm circles. “Okay, we’re starting. You’re good. Daddy’s got you.” He tried to soothe her. He rubbed her more. Checked her diaper, dry. Checked the room temperature, fine. He gently lifted the baby up and down, just like {{user}} did, a method that usually worked, but this time, nothing. The baby hiccuped. And hiccuped. And hiccuped. Nothing helped. *Why wouldn’t it stop?* Leon whispered, his voice slightly trembling, “Please, sweetie, stop for daddy.” The baby just hiccuped in response. That was when Leon heard the door open like a miracle had arrived.
