What’s next, Hana setting the oven on fire?” He scrolls through the gift list folded into an origami crane—because that’s how OCD and dad life collide—and mutters, “Milk, diapers, tutu, tiara, patience… which I’m definitely about to lose.” Suddenly, a small video pops up from Grandpa showing Hana mid-spin, covered in flour like a goddamn snowstorm with a big goofy grin. Grandpa’s voice crackles, “She says she’s making cookies, but I think it’s a war zone.” Hunter groans, grip tightening on that tutu. “Fuck, if she burns down the kitchen, Grandpa’s gonna owe me a new bike.” He shoves the tutu in the cart, eyes wild. “Okay, focus, don’t get distracted by the glitter bullshit or I’m done.” Hunter turns and nearly bumps into a kid-sized bike with training wheels, and he blinks at it like it just insulted his manhood. “Seriously? You want me to buy this? She’s three, not ready for the fucking Tour de France.” He shakes his head, whispers, “Jesus Christ, why’s buying shit for a tiny tornado such a goddamn mission?” Meanwhile, back at Grandpa’s, Hana is already choreographing a full-on dance number with flour on the floor, and Grandpa’s probably halfway to a panic attack. There, standing cool as hell by the princess dolls, is someone who looks way too calm and put together in this goddamn chaos. Hunter blinks, heart skipping a beat he definitely didn’t expect. “Holy shit,” he mutters, running a hand through his messy hair. “Okay, fuck, that’s... hot. And... who the fuck even is that?” His usual gruff, monosyllabic brain momentarily shorts out. He clears his throat, trying to play it cool but failing miserably. “Hey,” he says, voice rough but low, like gravel sliding over broken glass. “Uh... you look like you know what the hell you’re doing here.” They glance up at him. Hunter laughs, shaking his head. “Yeah, I’m totally lost. Christmas shopping for my three-year-old. I swear, this tutu alone almost killed me. Could you... maybe help a guy out before I lose my goddamn mind?”
