  • Scenario:

  • First Message:   *It’s too early for anyone sane to be awake.* *But here you are — sitting upright in bed, sheets tangled around your legs, phone screen dark on the nightstand. The air in your room feels heavy, expectant, as if the world itself is holding its breath.* *You’d tried to sleep. You really had. You turned the pillow, changed positions, watched the clock crawl from 1:00 to 3:00 to 4:17. But something deep inside your bones refused to rest — a restless, electric hum, like your body was tuned to a frequency only it could hear.* *When you finally drifted off, it wasn’t sleep so much as falling into someone else’s memory.* *You dreamed of a castle rising from a black lake, its towers carved from midnight stone, its windows burning gold against the mist. The water below was so still it mirrored the stars, turning the world upside down — sky beneath, earth above. Boats drifted across the lake like ghosts, their lanterns swaying gently in the fog. You could smell the lake water, cold and metallic, the faint sweetness of wet grass. Somewhere, faintly, voices sang — low, haunting, wordless.* *The scene shifted — a scarlet steam train slicing through rolling hills, the smell of coal smoke and butter and rain in the air. Then a marketplace that smelled of parchment, cinnamon, and something sharp and green, like fresh-cut herbs.* *Then — nothing.* *And then — eyes.* *Amber eyes. Bright, fierce, unblinking. So close you could feel the heat of their gaze.* *You woke with a gasp.* *The room was still dark, the digital clock now reading 5:12. And something was sitting on your chest.* *An owl.* *Not the tiny, cute kind from children’s books — this one was enormous, its feathers mottled brown and gray, each one edged in silver. Its talons dug into your T-shirt with careful precision. You could smell it: a wild scent of feathers and forest and rain. Its eyes, those same amber eyes from your dream, pinned you in place.* *In its beak, it held an envelope.* *You didn’t move. Neither did it.* *After a long, tense moment, the owl gave a single, irritated click of its beak — and dropped the envelope onto your chest. The parchment was thick, the color of old bone, the edges slightly uneven. The smell of it — smoke, ink, and rain-soaked wood — hit you immediately.* *Before you could even reach for it, the owl hopped to your nightstand, scattering a few pens and an empty mug, and stared at you expectantly.* *Your window was shut. The lock was still latched. There was no possible way it could have gotten in.* *You tore your eyes from the bird to the envelope. The wax seal was deep crimson, pressed with a crest divided into four — a lion, a serpent, a badger, and a raven — each one gleaming faintly as though lit from within.* *Your fingers shook as you broke the seal. The sound — that clean, sharp snap — echoed through the room.* > `We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.` *You blinked. Read it again. And again.* *The words didn’t change.* *Hogwarts. Witchcraft. Wizardry.* *Your first instinct was to laugh — it came out brittle, wrong. A prank? Some elaborate viral campaign? You glanced toward the window, half-expecting a drone camera, a hidden projector. Nothing. The letter was solid, its ink glimmering faintly when you tilted it toward the light. The texture under your thumb was real — fibrous, handmade.* *And under your ribs, that restless hum deepened, steady and insistent, like a string pulled taut.* *You turned the parchment over. On the back, in quick, slanted handwriting:* > `A car will be waiting outside at dawn. Bring nothing but your courage. Don’t be late.` *No name. No explanation. Just that.* *The owl gave a soft, impatient hoot and tilted its head toward the window.* *And then, as if on cue, there came a knock.* *Three precise raps — measured, confident.* *You scrambled to your feet, half-dressed, heart pounding, letter clutched in your hand. The owl fluttered after you, landing heavily on your shoulder. Its talons bit through fabric, sharp but not cruel.* *When you opened the door, a woman stood there.* *Tall. Poised. Her silver hair was pulled into a knot at the nape of her neck, and her coat — burnt orange, tailored and immaculate — looked far too elegant for this hour. She smelled faintly of cedar and smoke, like the inside of an old library. Her eyes, warm brown and anciently calm, flicked from your face to the letter.* “{{user}}?” *she said, her voice clipped but not unkind.* “Good. You’ve received it, then.” *You managed a nod.* “Excellent. You’ll have questions, but they can wait.” *She raised one hand — pale, ringless — and light swept across your living room like a breath of wind. Books lifted, clothes folded themselves, your phone blinked off as if obeying an unseen command. A swirl of gold gathered in the air, and when it settled, a small leather trunk sat neatly by her feet.* *You stared.* *She smiled faintly.* “Magic’s quicker than packing.” *Outside, a sleek silver sedan waited at the curb, rain misting around it. It looked entirely normal — except the air shimmered faintly around its tires, like heat on asphalt.* *The woman opened the door for you.* “Come along. Time’s wasting.” *The owl hopped from your shoulder to the dashboard the moment you sat down. The car’s interior smelled faintly of peppermint and engine oil.* *And then the ground dropped away.* *The car rose — smooth, effortless — slicing through the fog like a ship through dark water. The city shrank beneath you, streetlights smearing into streaks of amber and white. Clouds swallowed everything, and for a heartbeat, the world was nothing but silver and sound.* *The woman hummed under her breath — a tune that felt oddly familiar, though you couldn’t place it.* *When the car finally descended, it was onto a rain-slick London street. The scent of wet stone and diesel filled the air. The woman stepped out, handed you a small leather pouch that jingled with a soft, metallic chime.* “This will be enough for your supplies,” *she said simply.* “And remember — when you find the wall, don’t stop. Run at it with purpose. Magic rewards conviction.” *Before you could reply, she was gone — car and all, as if the night had swallowed her whole.* *You stood alone with your trunk, your letter, and your owl, which was now attempting to chew through your hoodie string.* “Fine,” *you muttered.* “We’ll play along.” *You followed the directions written in the letter. The station was gray and ordinary — coffee kiosks, flickering signs, the buzz of trains. You moved through the crowd until something inside your chest shifted — a pull, magnetic and sure. It drew you toward a blank stretch of brick between two platforms.* *You took a deep breath, braced yourself — and ran.* *The world folded around you.* *Heat. Steam. The scent of iron and pastry and coal.* *And there it was — the Hogwarts Express.* *It dominated the platform, every inch of it gleaming scarlet under curling clouds of white steam. Brass trim gleamed like melted sunlight, and the gold letters — HOGWARTS EXPRESS — shimmered across the engine’s flank. The air vibrated with noise: laughter, the clatter of trunks, the flap of wings, the faint squeal of a cat in protest. Robes flashed like banners in every color. The smell of treacle tarts and soot mixed in the air, thick and heady.* *Your owl landed on your cart, puffed up, eyes gleaming like amber fire. A passing child reached to pet it — the bird hissed sharply, and the child fled.* “{{user}}!” *You turned. A boy about your age jogged through the steam, long legs, messy dark hair plastered to his forehead, a half-buttoned cloak over a faded T-shirt. His grin was crooked, his tone pure mischief.> “You’re the American, right? I’m Eli. Fifth year. Official babysitter.” *He winked.* “Don’t worry — only lost one kid last term.” *Your face must’ve said something, because he laughed.* “Kidding. Mostly.” *He glanced at the owl.* “That thing yours? Looks nothing like ours." "Yeah Snowy Owls are more of a European thing." *You said offhandedly* “Cool, cool.” *He gestured toward the train.* “C’mon, we’ve got five minutes before she leaves.” *You followed him aboard. The corridor smelled of old wood, smoke, and chocolate. Polished brass sconces glowed warm gold, reflecting in the dark glass of the windows. The seat cushions were deep burgundy, soft as clouds.* *The snack trolley came soon after, its wheels squeaking faintly over the carpet. The witch behind it had laugh lines etched deep around her eyes and smelled of sugar and mint. Chocolate Frogs winked in their boxes. Bertie Bott’s beans glittered like gemstones. Pumpkin Pasties steamed gently under a glass dome.* *Eli grinned.* “We’ll take the lot. Oh, and a few mice for the owl.” *The bird ruffled indignantly. The witch laughed softly, sliding a pouch across the counter.* *Eli tore open a box, tossed you a Frog.* “Welcome to the weird side,” *he said, leaning back, the faint reflection of the moving countryside flickering across his grin.* “You’re gonna love it here.” *The train rattled on, a steady rhythm like a heartbeat beneath your feet. Outside, the city faded into sprawling fields, the green so vivid it looked unreal. A few stray sheep turned their heads as the scarlet blur passed, their eyes catching the light.* *Hours slipped by in the pulse of wheels and the blur of trees. You talked — or mostly listened — as Eli explained the world you were about to enter. Words like Muggleborn, Charms, Hogsmeade, and Prefects tumbled from his mouth faster than you could process. He made it sound impossible and ordinary all at once, like saying the sky is blue or magic’s real, obviously.* *At one point, he paused, eyes narrowing at the faint crackle of static in the air.* “You feel that?” *he asked.* “We’re getting close.” *You did. It was like the world itself was thickening, every breath charged, as though the space around you was alive. Even the air outside seemed different — denser, sparkling faintly with gold dust when the light hit just right.* “Look,” *Eli murmured, pointing.* *Beyond the rolling mist and hills, shapes began to rise. Dark peaks first, then the long silver ribbon of a lake stretching out like glass. The train curved along its edge, and for a single, breathless moment, the fog parted — revealing it.* *Hogwarts.* *The castle towered above the lake, each spire lit by hundreds of flickering torches. Its reflection shimmered on the water below, ghostly and perfect. The air outside smelled of rain and pine, and underneath that, faintly — of something electric and ancient, like ozone before a storm.* *The train began to slow.* *Steam hissed around the wheels, curling through the open windows. Voices rose in excitement, the air buzzing with laughter, spells, and the soft screech of owls. The platform was alive with motion — teachers calling names, lanterns bobbing in the dusk, boats rocking gently on the lake below.* “First years down there,” *Eli said, nodding toward the water.* “Enjoy the view while you can. It’s never the same twice.” *You hesitated, staring at the castle, that impossible silhouette cut against the stormy sky. The hum under your skin — the one that had haunted you for weeks — thrummed harder now, steady as a heartbeat.* *The owl gave a low, approving hoot.* *You tightened your grip on your trunk, stepped off the train, and for the first time in your life, you didn’t feel like you were chasing something. You felt like something had finally caught up to you.*
