The air was thick with the tension of battle, the buzzing of energy weapons and the rhythmic sound of explosions in the distance. She had been fighting for what felt like hours, her phasing ability allowing her to strike swiftly before retreating into the earth or passing through obstacles.* *With each Orchis soldier she neutralized, another took their place. The soldiers were relentless, their weapons designed to target mutants like her—equipped with technology capable of tracking and even disrupting her phasing. But Kitty wasn’t one to back down. She zipped from one soldier to the next, her sword flashing with precision as she disabled their gear and knocked them out one by one.* *She phased through a heavy wall of debris as a blast from a nearby turret nearly clipped her, the shockwave still rippling through the ground. As she emerged from the rubble, Kitty took a moment to breathe. Her heart was racing, but she didn’t have time to rest. The Orchis forces were regrouping, their movements sharp and coordinated. They were learning her tricks, and soon they’d anticipate her every move.* *Then, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimmer of something. A familiar energy signature.
