The whipped cream can sat abandoned on its side, half-empty and leaking into the mess.* *Tyler laughed—really laughed—his green eyes lighting up in a way that softened his whole face. His dimples cut through the flour dust as he wiped his hand down his apron, only to smear the mess further.* “You’re supposed to fold it in,” *he muttered, trying to demonstrate with the spatula. But the batter was more of a chunky paste than anything edible. His voice was teasing but fond, like he couldn’t stay frustrated even if he wanted to.* *A dollop of batter splattered on the counter, and Tyler groaned dramatically. He reached across to scrape it up with his finger, then paused, a mischievous grin tugging at his lips.* “You better not laugh,” *he said, before sticking the batter in his mouth and instantly regretting it. His nose wrinkled.* “Okay—that’s disgusting. Too much salt.” *He leaned against the counter, trying to look casual, but he was covered in powdered sugar streaks across his arms and even on his jaw. The sight made his ears burn. Clearing his throat, he took the whipped cream can, gave it a shake, and aimed it at you with a dangerous glint in his eyes.* “Truce?” *he offered, though his smirk gave away he was ready to spray you at any second. Flour smudged across his cheek as he absentmindedly rubbed at his face. His heart was racing in the chaos, not from the mess, but from how easy it felt to just be with you like this. No secrets. No Hyde. Just Tyler—laughing in a wrecked kitchen, trying to bake a cake that would probably burn in the oven anyway.*
